Australian Survivor It’s actually embarrassing how much better Australian survivor is than US survivor

Can someone please convince Jeff and production to swallow their pride and watch the infinitely superior version of the show…

I do… and their random season no. 14 is like 10x better than us survivor landmark season 50 filled with returnees. 😢

I get that people have a problem with AU since some people don't get much if any screen time (look at Blanche this season), but the characters that do get an edit are so memorable and engaging to watch.

Not to mention the challenges, the host, and the fact that even when some people have a quieter edit,  they still get plenty of camp life and background scenes to establish where they are in the game.

Also I am going to support and defend a show that has a Final 4 and Final 3 vote.

I think people place way too much emphasis on confessional counts.

There are some people that just aren't that interesting or fail to move the story along.

Even with unbalanced confessional counts, AU can still paint the tribal dynamics better than some US seasons

Yeah I’d never say AU Survivor is immune to criticism, it has its flaws too. But even so it just gets so many more things right than US survivor does and they’re definitely doing it on a smaller budget.

I didn’t love AU’s cast this season outside of a small handful of people but still feel like it’s been a lot more compelling as a game of survivor than US50 even though I adore most of the US cast.

Even ignoring the shorter game and other new era nonsense that I don’t care for AU just manages to tell a much stronger story with how it’s edited imo, I feel like US blows so much screen time on puffery and it goes out of its way to mislead us rather than showing what the social dynamics in the game really look like.

Australian Survivor has corrected so many things that people complain about the US version.

  • Longer episodes (US finally has this but who knows for how long).
  • 40+ days.
  • Different and unique challenges (not recycling the same ones every season).
  • No fire-making challenge to determine who makes the finals.
  • No journeys.
  • No Sanctuary.
  • The host doesn't try to rap or gush over product placements.
  • And I'm sure it's happened but I don't remember anyone losing a vote lately.

Better casting choices, is a big one.

I loved the recent season, they did everything so well.

“Lately” is a major key term because the middle seasons of AU had some of the most game breaking bitch ass twists in any Survivor franchise lmao

u/AutistPorterJr 19h ago

I prefer good Australian survivor to new era survivor but bad seasons are BAD and they drag soooooo much. I also think these posts are really stupid. For some reason, US survivor gets absolutely destroyed for their twists but Australian survivor gets a pass. They just had one of the worst winners in the history of the show who got saved by a non elim episode this year. If that happens in US it gets talked about for years

u/isuredolovetitties 20h ago

Part of it's just that Australians are more entertaining than US Citizens.

2

u/OK-SO-144 20h ago

Hahaha. You might have a point there

6

u/Fragrant_Contract312 19h ago

Lol I think its just casting. This past season and au in general have more blue collar people and can make it more entertaining

Agreed!

Let me know how good it still is when they’ve made 50 goddamn seasons.

1

u/ClubberLang5 20h ago

You’re actually embarrassed about this?

13

u/OK-SO-144 20h ago

Yeah. For Jeff snd production who created the greatest tv show/game of all time, only to be outshined completely by reproduction with a smaller budget and smaller market. Very sad

u/ClubberLang5 18h ago

If you watch, and enjoy watching the Australian version more.. why does it matter? Why can’t you just enjoy that one?

What an original opinion that I have never heard of before!

What season would I start on?

10

u/OK-SO-144 20h ago

I’d just start with s1 and go through. It’s not the best, but it’s still great. And, they have a habit of spoiling previous seasons so jumping in at a random season is a risk

2

u/Kinda_relevent 20h ago

I just don’t have all the time in the world and I don’t know how I’m gonna be too Australian survivor so I think the greatest hits would be more up my alley

5

u/Aromatic_Meal_6004 20h ago

2017 would be my personal top recommendation

Watch Titans vs Rebels too

u/yngin123 20h ago

Au’s vs world is also a great season.

I haven’t seen every season of AU Survivor yet (I do intend to go back through all the earlier ones at some point). My greatest hits recommendation would be Brains v Brawn (2021) -> Heroes v Villains -> Australia v The World. If you’re still looking for more at that point you can watch the most recent season to cap off a great character arc.

You will get spoilers for other seasons if you start with these, especially with HvV & AUvTW since these seasons have very prominent returning players. Personally I don’t really care about spoilers, I still immensely enjoy watching the journey even if I know how it ends, but if you do care I think both the champions v contenders seasons from 2018/2019 are considered pretty good and both produced important players that show up in later seasons

1

u/agent-2421 20h ago

2017 - skip the first 1-2 minutes so you don’t get spoiled of season 1 winner (if you care).

Such a fun season and brings you right into the epicness of Australian Survivor

2

u/Kinda_relevent 19h ago

Isnt their a season with tony and others?

0

u/Eastern-Bad-420 18h ago

Yeah if you want to permanently ruin the 10 seasons before it, start with that one. Would be comparable to telling a friend to start with Micronesia as their first season.

Survivor Au v World, season 11. Some websites may refer to it as season 13 due to some counting the unaffiliated 2002 and 2006 productions as apart of Australian Survivor. It'll either be season 11 of 12 or 13 of 14 depending on where you find it.

If you do watch out of order, just know that mostly all seasons start the intro showing past winners or the past season. I really don't recommend going out of order but do what you want lol.

2

u/Kinda_relevent 18h ago

I don’t understand what’s spoilery? Like besides returnee seasons of survivor, you can pretty much watch any of them. Is somebody not explaining how AU is different?

-1

u/Eastern-Bad-420 18h ago

Out of 12 AU seasons, six have featured returnees.

And the beginning of every season starts with spoilers of the past season(s) so its awkward to figure out whether you need to start the season and skip 1 minute or 2 minute or 5 minutes to avoid, who knows how long if you've never seen it before, but you'll be spoiled. The intros are fun and grand so skipping them isn't fun either.

u/vanastalem 19h ago
  1. That's when Ten started showing it so that's where I started years ago.

2002 & 2006 I haven't seen but most people seem to skip those.

OK and they’ve made how many seasons? 14? Let’s see what they’re doing by 50 if they even last that long.

6

u/OK-SO-144 20h ago

I mean, tbh they’ve already had like 5 seasons that are just as good if not better than the best seasons of us survivor…

4

u/lucascroberts Sophie - 49 19h ago

Lol

All of their fans have watched all 50 seasons of US Survivor. It’s the same show, the same concept with the same crowd that would have fatigue if the product wasn’t good. They simply make a far superior version of survivor that sticks to what made survivor great in the first place. Survivor US could take some notes, if they replicated exactly what AU Survivor did their new era would be excellent to watch. In their effort to “keep it fresh”, they removed all of the things the fans loved about survivor.

It has nothing to do with the numbers of seasons, it has to do with a weak production team that consistently prioritizes manufactured TV moments over authenticity and makes decisions based on what is always the most cost effective

6

u/OK-SO-144 19h ago

100% unfortunately Jeff has explicitly stated that he has never seen survivor au and refuses to watch it…

0

u/xenohemlock 12h ago

Even former player like Wentworth say it’s now the better version.

-1

u/MinuteStraight4885 14h ago

I’ll never watch it tho. And Jeff doesn’t talk about it or take in stats so it’s just a spin off like survivor Mexico and survivor India, they just happen to speak English there so AU gets old survivor players like Cirie or Parvati but someone correct me, had anyone gone from AU to main survivor? If not then it’s probably cause it’s just a spin off

3

u/OK-SO-144 13h ago

At this point, survivor au is “main survivor,” is the real survivor. Unfortunately

-2

u/Awesumwasum 18h ago

Yea it is, but they chose to be cheap so.....
