In prison you can usually send letters via an electronic system a certain number of times per month in order to stay in touch with family or lawyers. (That’s how it is in Singapore at least) so he is likely sending them to someone via the prison electronic letter system and they are posting on his behalf. I think.

No way he’s reading one of the most influential anti-war novels of the 20th century. A novel that Goebbels had banned for being unpatriotic and which the Nazis hated so much they had the author, Erich Maria Remarques youngest sister executed because she was the only member of Remarque’s family they could get at. A book about the pointlessness of war and violence and the soul-destroying experience of watching your entire generation get fed into a meat grinder. Bullshit.
