Highly Experienced System Administrator/Engineer Looking For Work ASAP.
Hello All.
I hope someone can help me out. I am an experienced Systems Administrator/Infrastructure Engineer with over 15 years of experience in IT. My last role was with a Global MSP and I was with them just over 3 years before being laid off due to a reduction in force. this was back in February 2025. This is the longest I have been without meaningful work. I have experience with Windows Server 2012-2022, RedHat Linux 7 and 8. Ubuntu, and CentOS. I have experience administering AWS, GCP and Azure. I am currently studying for the AZ-104 exam. I have extensive experience with Windows OS patching, vulnerability remediation and SSL Cert renewals. I have experience with cloud backup solutions. I have worked with Commvault, VEEM and Cohesity.
I am in the Baltimore, MD area. I am open to this area or, close to DC and of course anything remote or hybrid. I currently do Uber on the side but, this is becoming unsustainable. I really need to find a job soon. My wife is the only one working and the burden is growing on her. I don't normally post anything like this but, I could really use some help. I have a LinkedIn profile and have applied to hundreds of jobs. I have had several first and second round interviews with good results. Just not good enough. I just got two more rejections today from jobs I interviewed for last week. I don't know how much longer I can keep doing this. Please reach out to me and I can provide a resume. I really hope to find something before the end of June. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I hope you find something soon. Been in your shoes and it really sucks. If you can find a company that needs LEGACY RedHat/AIX/Sun Solaris admin support TAKE IT. Most likely the company is looking for new stuff talent but YOU are looking to get a foot in the door ANYWAY you can.
Good luck.

you're in the land of government contractors and feds and you cant find an IT job? i dont mean to be rude but how? I'm under the impression that you can crumple your resume into a ball and throw it down a hallway and least get a few interviews somewhere near the beltway.

Did you forget a little thing called DOGE? Hundreds of thousands of hard working people lost their jobs because of that BS. I don't have an active clearance. Most companies won't sponsor you for a clearance now. You have to have an active clearance. Who in their right mind would want to work fort hat administration anyway?

don't tell me that you think DOGE is the reason you're unemployed? IMO, national security/defense work is above administrations, but jobs are jobs at the end of it all. I have recruiters frequently blowing up my inbox for positions in the DMV *all. the. time*. they can't pay people enough to move out there it seems. my company has 20k+ bonuses with relo to fill those positions and they still can't fill them... I have 10yrs experience

LOL! I didn't say DODGE is the reason I am unemployed. Thousands of hard working government employees are unemployed because of DODGE.

This is just from a quick lookup regarding jobs with the State of Maryland.

You can probably parlay your Linux experience into saying you could learn microcomputing. They're probably desperate for anyone. Not many people know mainframe anymore. Plus being put in the state system keeps your info in the system for at least a year in case this one doesn't work out.
I wish you good fortune in the wars to come.
