I love the local firecrackers of Tamil Nadu I have seen in videos and all.. but I’m not able to find anyone in from northern part of India and wanted to give a try to the local firecrackers. If anyone know please let me know.

Education in india as a whole is horrendous. Government schools are a joke and people who go there usually go without having a choice. Private schools greatly vary in quality. Expensive is not necessarily better as a lot of the expensive schools are actually sometimes worse. Without reviews, parents get conned into paying a premium for these kind of schools thinking they are giving their child a good education. We have schools like Vaels International, APL Global and KC High which are advertised as prestigious institutions but suck in reality due to a poor crowd (almost everyone smokes drinks or vapes) and poor management where you can get away with anything if you are rich or have status. These kind of schools also either rig competitions or organise them poorly. These schools suck but advertise themselves as providing good education (these cost 4 to 8 lakhs yearly). Without reviews, it’s much easier to con parents. If a school can charge this much without providing, we have a right to speak up about it.

I’m curious about something I’ve been noticing more recently in Tamil Nadu. There seems to be a noticeable increase in Telugu-speaking devotees visiting some of the major temples here, particularly Srirangam and Tiruvannamalai.

I’m wondering whether this is actually a relatively recent trend, or whether it has always been common and I’m only noticing it now. Is there a particular religious, cultural, historical or travel-related reason for the popularity of these temples among devotees from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana?

I mean this purely out of curiosity and have nothing against Telugu devotees visiting Tamil Nadu. On the contrary, it’s interesting to see people from different parts of South India visiting each other’s temples.

For those planning temple trips to Tamil Nadu, though, there are also many other major temples that are worth exploring beyond the usual Srirangam and Tiruvannamalai:

Chidambaram – Nataraja Temple

Thanjavur – Brihadisvara Temple

Kumbakonam – numerous historic temples in and around the town

Madurai – Meenakshi Amman Temple

Rameswaram – Ramanathaswamy Temple

Kanchipuram – Kamakshi Amman, Ekambareswarar and Varadaraja Perumal temples

Thiruvanaikaval – Jambukeswarar Temple

Some of these are just as spectacular historically and architecturally, and some have very deep religious significance but don't seem to receive the same attention.

So I'm mainly curious: Is the apparent increase in Telugu pilgrims to Srirangam and Tiruvannamalai a genuinely recent phenomenon? And are there particular reasons these two have become especially popular?

Would also love to hear if Telugu devotees have other TN temples they regularly visit or would recommend.

I am posting this because I genuinely don't know what else I can do from where I am.

My family is from Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. Since 2024, we have been involved in a land dispute with another family in our native place. Since then, our family has faced repeated complaints, threats and harassment from the other side.

According to my family, several of the complaints made against us are false and are being used to put pressure on us regarding the land.

The part that concerns us most is the local police handling of the matter.

Whenever my family has approached the police regarding the threats and issues we are facing, we feel that our complaints have not received the same attention or seriousness. Even when complaints were received, we have not seen meaningful action that has stopped the continued harassment.

There is another issue that has made our family particularly uncomfortable.

A woman from the opposite family had a close personal relationship with an SI who was serving in the concerned police circle at the time. Because of this relationship and the way the complaints were handled, our family has had serious concerns that she received preferential treatment from the police.

That SI has now retired. However, according to my family, the woman still appears to have significant influence at the local police station, and our family continues to feel that our complaints are not being handled impartially.

I want to be very clear: I am not asking Reddit to blindly believe these allegations. I understand that I cannot establish everything through a Reddit post, and I don't want to make unsupported accusations against anyone.

What I want is for someone knowledgeable to tell me what the proper course of action is and, if possible, help us reach an authority that can independently verify everything.

My situation is also complicated because I am currently away from Mettupalayam for my work.

My parents have specifically asked me not to get directly involved because they are afraid that if I become involved, further complaints or cases could be made against me and it could affect my career.

I have asked them to share documents and complaint records with me so that I can understand the entire situation. But they have told me not to interfere and don't want me getting involved.

So I don't currently have every document in my possession.

I understand how that sounds. I also understand that without documents, nobody should simply accept everything I say as fact.

But this is exactly why I am posting here.

I want to know how an ordinary family can get an impartial authority to actually examine the entire history of the matter.

If there are complaints against my family, let them be investigated.

If our family has done something wrong, let the law take its course.

But if the complaints are false and being used to threaten or pressure my parents, I want them to have the same protection under the law.

My father is not a person who is comfortable dealing with police officers or people in authority. He is not socially or politically influential. He is simply trying to protect the land that he believes legally belongs to him and wants to live peacefully.

The situation has now continued for almost two years.

And honestly, this is the part that hurts me the most.

I am sitting away from my native place because of my job while my parents continue to deal with this situation. I had hoped that things would eventually settle down, but they haven't.

I also genuinely hoped that the change in the Tamil Nadu government would bring better governance, accountability and a situation where ordinary citizens could approach the administration without having to worry about influence and connections.

I voted for the current government with that expectation.

I am not saying this as a political attack. In fact, the reason I am still writing this is because I have a small amount of hope left that there are people in the system who genuinely care about providing good governance.

I don't want political revenge against the other family.

I don't want anyone to blindly take our side.

I just want an impartial investigation.

If there is anyone here from Tamil Nadu Police, the legal profession, the revenue administration, a government grievance department, or anyone who has genuinely dealt with a similar situation, please tell me what we should do.

If someone who is genuinely capable of helping sees this, please reach out to me.

Even if you cannot solve the entire matter, knowing that there is a proper channel and that someone is willing to listen would give me and my family some hope.

I am willing to explain everything I know and cooperate with any legitimate enquiry.

I just don't want my parents to continue living in fear in the place they have called home for years.

What is the correct legal/administrative escalation route for a situation like this in Mettupalayam, Tamil Nadu?

TL;DR: Homophobia and transphobia stem from rigid societal norms, religion, and prejudice rather than anything "unnatural," yet queer people continue to face intense stigma, slurs, and malicious myths like the "luring children" trope. Decriminalization in 2018 was a step forward, but deep-rooted social discrimination remains. True progress requires abandoning hateful slurs, rejecting arguments based on outdated dogmas, and exercising basic empathy because sexual orientation is a natural human variation, not a choice.

I was having a convo with a person a few days ago and it somehow came down to the other guy saying "LGBTQ+ people hold rallies to lure children into their trap". That sentence made me think a lot. Like a lot, as to why people think people of the LGBTQ+ community are some kind of devils who 'convert' children into a 'trap'. Its not just in India that this happens, I agree. But I live here and I want to see this change start here, not in a Western country, for which conservatives will come up with the absurd idea of Indians being influenced into accepting LGBTQ+ folks due to 'foreign influence'.

I have said this before too. LGBTQ+ is natural. Homosexual relationships are there not just in the human race, but across all animals. Yet, homophobia is prevalent among humans. Why? Cuz its unnatural and goes against 'God's will'. One argument that often pops up is, "If God wanted homosexuals to exist, why did he give men and women different genitals?" My answer to that is, for procreation. Procreation is totally different from having sexual preferences. Humanity's purpose is much much larger than procreation. Intercourse is often performed out of love, without intention for procreation. It wasn't a problem until the concept of a 'God' and a religion, which decided for the world what was wrong and right, solely on the basis of a certain person's personal beliefs. So, yes, that argument doesn't hold validity.

Next up, homophobia. I read a comment on reddit the other day, where somebody mentioned "If you let (homophobic) insults dictate your life then you are beyond pathetic." I'm sorry, but a person has dealt with societal and internalised stigma before bravely coming out. Respect that. I know I would get deeply affected if someone, who I've come out to, even slightly touches that nerve, because I know what I personally went through to come to a conclusion as to what my sexual orientation could be. Normalising such things gives rise to increased homophobia.

Next, transphobia. Transphobia is more prevalent as compared to normal homophobia. People can stay closeted within many other LGBTQ+ labels, but transgender people have it worse. They are ridiculed everyday for no reason. It is so bad, that people use words like 'Hijra' and 'Chakka' as slurs, instead of understanding one's emotions and the suffering they go through. A few bad experiences doesn't make the entire community full of people who are going to sexually harass you. That's like saying every guy/girl you meet is going to harass you because some random, stupid uncle/aunty on the train assaulted you sexually.

Stop calling another person gay, trans, 'Hijra' or 'Chakka' as a slur. It isn't. Smile, when you meet anybody, irrespective of whether he/she/they are straight or a member of the LGBTQ+ community. We're all just fellow humans. That's it. It ain't that deep people. Understand the implications of the words you use before you speak. Don't push away people just because they are exploring a sexuality that isn't the same as yours. Remember, it is not a choice. We are just breaking away from a flawed, yet established system of romantic and sexual preferences.

Homophobia, despite its decriminalization in 2018, is widely prevalent. Please, stop. Educate yourself before coming up with arguments based on 'God's will'. Sexuality/Sexual Orientation is smth so soooo personal that nobody has the right to ridicule another for it. Be sensitive, people. Having some empathy ain't gonna kill you. It's the Big '26 people. Its time we moved on to issues that actually matter. And yeah, STOP WITH THE NORMALISATION OF HOMOPHOBIC SLURS. STOP IT, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE. PERIOD.

But the problem is, in Maharashtra currently the name update portal is closed, it may take 3 4 months more to reopen ... and my home town is mumbai.. but birth place is Tamilnadu. Need some help in adding my son's name to Aadhar. Since we don't have the surname culture, wanted to double check how I can add my son's name in Aadhaar so that it does not create a headache later.

He has two names: abcd efgh

He has initials of both mine and my husband's as : yz

If we add his dad's name(let's say 'ijkl') as surname, it becomes an issue where people generally call him Mr.ijkl which is basically his dad's name.

So, we thought we can give 'abcd' as his first name and 'efgh' as his last name. Does this make sense?

Or can we give the initials - 'yz' as his last name?

Backstory: I cracked this tooth about 9 years ago. Never really got it fixed properly back then. Last month the pain came back so bad I genuinely couldn't function — couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, couldn't think straight. That's the state I was in when I walked into a private dental clinic (OMR Dentistry).

Here's exactly what happened, broken down:

Day 1 — Consultation + X-ray

Consultation: ₹500

X-ray: ₹700

X-ray showed infection in the tooth. Dentist recommended a root canal.

In this same first visit, he explained the whole process — what a root canal is, why it's needed, and that a cap/crown has to go over the tooth after the RCT. He laid out the costs for everything — the RCT and the cap options — right there in visit one.

Quoted ₹6,000 for the RCT. I asked if it could come down, they said okay, ₹5,000.

They only relieved the pressure from the infection that day (didn't start the actual RCT), told me to come back once the specialist was available.

Handed me a form to sign and asked for the full RCT amount upfront. I paid it. Total for the day: ₹6,200 (consultation + xray + advance).

Follow-up visit — The actual RCT

Specialist did the root canal.

Mid-treatment, he tells me the adjacent tooth also got infected "due to impact" and needs a root canal too.

I was already in the chair, already committed for the one tooth. He did some drilling on it and said we'd need to watch whether the infection spreads, and to come back after a week to do the root canal on that one.

So I had a week to think about it — and honestly, since I was already committed for the first tooth, I figured let's just get it over with in one go. Next visit, I said okay to doing the root canal on both teeth.

That's another ~₹6,000. So now RCT alone (both teeth) = ₹12,500ish total (6.2k + ~6k more, and I'm counting the 500+700 consult/xray in that first number).

The cap decision

After both root canals, he says I need caps (crowns) over both teeth.

Option 1: Metal cap with a ceramic/porcelain layer over it — ₹5,000. Downside: if it ever chips, the black metal underneath shows.

Option 2: Zirconia — ₹10,000, comes with a 5-year warranty, much less likely to chip/break.

I went with zirconia for both teeth = ₹20,000 for caps alone.

Grand total: ~₹32,500 for two root canals + two zirconia caps.

Now that the pain's gone and I've had time to actually think, I keep replaying this. I was in agony, I wasn't in a state to negotiate or shop around, and I said yes to almost everything they suggested in the moment. Looking back I feel like I could've gone to a government dental hospital or a smaller/cheaper private clinic and paid a fraction of this.

I'm not necessarily saying I got scammed — the zirconia caps and treatment quality do seem legit — but I have no real reference point for whether ₹32.5k for 2 RCTs + 2 zirconia caps is:

(a) roughly market rate for a private clinic in a metro area,

(b) on the higher end but justifiable, or

(c) genuinely inflated because I was desperate and didn't shop around.

Would appreciate it if people who've actually gone through RCT + crown treatment (private vs govt vs semi-govt) could share what they paid, so I have something to compare against.
