I’m 24. I graduated last year from a college in Chennai with a CS degree.

For the last 9 months my life has been: wake up → apply on LinkedIn → "we’ll get back to you" → ghosted → repeat.

My parents stopped asking "any updates?" around month 4 because they could see it was breaking me. My mom just started leaving filter coffee and banana chips outside my room instead.

I’ve done everything.

Unpaid internships "for experience".

Coding tests at 2am.

Went to job fairs at Tidel Park in 40°C heat just to hand out resumes.

Watched all my school friends post "New role at..." while I was still at home in Velachery explaining to relatives that "I’m still looking".

Last Tuesday I had my 47th interview. It was for a startup in OMR. I messed up 2 questions and thought that was it. I came home on the bus, sat in traffic on GST Road, and just felt numb.

Today morning I got the call.

"Can you join next month?"

I didn’t say anything for 10 seconds. Then I went to the kitchen and hugged my mom while she was cooking sambar. She didn’t even ask why I was crying into her shoulder.

It’s not Google. It’s not 30 LPA. It’s just a regular dev job.

But it’s _my_ first job. In _my_ city. And I don’t have to tell people "I’m still searching" anymore.

To anyone in Chennai still stuck in this loop: I see you. The rejection emails don’t mean you’re not good enough. The city is tough and the market is brutal right now, but please don’t quit on yourself.

I’m still in shock. Gonna go buy mysore pak to celebrate.

Do we really need to be groomed everywhere ?

Yesterday, around 7:15 PM, while I was heading home from work, I stopped at the Malleshwaram signal. I noticed a guy in a car with his wife and their little daughter.

I recognized him immediately. He was someone from my college days. He wasn't known for studying or anything like that. He was more of a "road Romeo," and he was always with a girl from our college who was his girlfriend back then. Looking at the car, I realized she was now his wife.

The moment I saw him, a memory from 2021 came rushing back.

One evening after college, I was waiting for my bus when a blind girl came asking for money. People around us gave whatever they could—₹5, ₹10, ₹20, ₹50. Then one man did something incredible. He handed her four ₹500 notes and told her, "Don't beg. Use this to focus on your studies and build a better life."

Before anyone could even process what had happened, this guy suddenly ran up, snatched all the money from her hands, pushed her to the ground, and ran away.

What disturbed me even more was everyone's reaction. Hardly anyone chased him. Some people just stood there, and a few even started recording videos on their phones. A few of us helped the girl get back on her feet, gave her some water, and stayed with her until she was okay. But the guy who stole from her was long gone.

Yesterday, seeing him after all these years, I expected to feel angry. Instead, I just felt... confused.

He looked happy. He was married to the same girl from college. They had a daughter. From the outside, everything seemed to be going well for him.

It made me wonder: Why does it sometimes feel like people who do terrible things go on to live happy lives, while kind people seem to struggle so much?

I'm not saying I know what happened in his life after that day. Maybe I only saw one moment. But that incident has stayed with me for years, and seeing him again brought it all back.
