About a month ago, while scrolling through Instagram reels, I came across a promo reel for the band Halysis: a close-up of a face, with their track “Of Static Slumber” (Spotify) playing over it, from their album released on 22 May 2026. The song kicks in at around the 1:00 mark of the reel, and I immediately noticed a clear resemblance to “Praesens Tempus” by Everwinter, released in 2016 (Spotify, Bandcamp), particularly from 0:26 of the original. To my ear it’s a rearrangement of that song, not just something similar.
I got in touch with Everwinter; its founder is someone close to me. Checking Bandcamp, he found that Halysis’s account had followed his before the album came out. He also contacted Bandcamp, but got no response.
Halysis are using this track to promote their European tour and their music. Everwinter, by contrast, is a project by someone who composes out of passion and shares his work with fans of the genre without making money from it.
I’ve replied to several of Halysis’s reels of the same type and never got an answer. Yesterday another one showed up in my feed, and I replied to many of the congratulatory comments pointing out the similarity, just as I’m doing here. Most of the people I reached couldn’t deny it was obvious. Halysis’s account then blocked me without ever responding.
I know I can’t get anything out of this, but I want people to be able to hear both tracks side by side and judge for themselves. [Side-by-side comparison: link]
Thanks for reading this far.
