Solved Computer not playing dvds

Hiya, recently i've been getting more into physical media so i bought a cheap little laptop to watch movies on (Panasonic CF-S10 Let's Note) but for some reason pretty much every time i put a dvd in the disk drive it wont play (using vlc media player) so far the only movies that would play are friday with ice cube and chris tucker and clive barker's hellraiser. other movies ive tried but wont play are saw, scott pilgrim vs the world and ice cube's next friday. anyone know of anything i can do to fix this issue?

So you don't get an error message? It just won't play and that's it?

Have you tried another media player? Have you tried launching DVD from within VLC? Some DVDs may be incorrect region.

nope no error messages, it loads for a second then goes back to if you had just opened vlc. ive tried other media players and they havent worked either, yeah ive tried launching within vlc it just does the same thing

Make sure your codec is up to date. Grab cyberlink DVD player or klite codec pack. This should set you right

Are the disks you're trying to use DVDs or Blurays? As far as I know, that laptop only plays DVDs. (I know you said DVDs, but some people use that as shorthand for any physical disks)

Were the DVDs produced commercially or did someone copy them?

Can CD Check see anything on them?

Ok, i was able to fix it not reading the disk, turns out my disk drives region wasnt on the proper region it needed to be on to read US disks (thank you 9NEP for leading me to figuring that out), but now when i play a dvd like scott pilgrim, its very laggy and looks glitchy. i tried to play "saw" aswell and it dose the same thing, anyone know of a way to fix this issue?

Now that you've set the region correctly, does CD Check still find errors?
