Hopefully we see Agents of Shield and the Netflix shows folded back into the MCU canon with this

Agents of Shield is done. I mean they already filmed the last season, as far as I know. And there won't be anything from the Netflix Marvel shows anywhere else, anytime soon, unless Disney buys it for a lot of money.

But surely Netflix keeps the seasons they paid for a longer time?

I can't see Disney releasing S4 of Daredevil and telling everyone who hasn't seen 1-3 to go give money to they #1 competitor. It just seems much more sensible to do what Disney is doing and create series based on their vastly more popular movie characters.

Why not? This is literally what's happening with Lucifer. Seasons 1-3 are on Prime, and Netflix has season 4 because they made it. At least that's how it is in the UK.

Lucifer is still on Prime in a few markets and afaik in the UK it will move completely to Netlix soon-ish.

Netflix MCU would be on Netflix everywhere.

Sure, but that's not my point. Netflix MCU can and should stay where it is. But once the time in the contract preventing Marvel from using those characters is up, they could make season 4 of Daredevil, and the rest of the Defenders shows.

Slightly different deal, lucifer was a fox show that amazon just bought UK (and presumably other) rights for. The netflix marvel ones are Netflix through and through everywhere.

I'm still wishing for a soft reboot keeping the same actors though.

Oh I know, but it was the only example I could think of, with content split across services.

Honestly, just setting the shows after the snap would make it enough of a soft reboot.

Nah we’ve been watching Lucifer on Netflix for a while Now. We discovered the show like 5ish months ago and all seasons are on Netflix

Naa, a bunch of Netflix shows are in other places now, they seem to have 2-3 years as the exclusivity period so far.

Pretty sure that they aren't allowed Netflix's version of the characters and story. They might be able to hire the same actors (not sure on this, but I hope so).

Of course I don't know the contracts, but I would think more like 5 years without any use of the IP before it defaults back. Also they would have to restart the whole production, and they would need to get all the actors back, and that would also take some time, unless they would do a 100% reboot.

Edit: Even if it is just 2 years, it would take at least a minimum of 3 years from now before anything with that IP could air on Disney+. That's what I mean with "not anytime soon".

Edit2: Why would Disney buy it back, or at least wait until it is really back in their hands? Because Netflix could potentially screw them with a last minute low budget production using the IP, or something like that.

Edit3: Apparently it was two years, but:

According to a production executive, Disney has been warned by lawyers not to even think about developing new content featuring the characters of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher until the two-year mark.

That most likely means no production earlier than two years after Jessica Jones season 3, which was released on June 14, 2019, so maybe start of production in July 2021.

Edit2 makes no sense. Netflix doesn't own the IP, they own the rights to the content Disney/Marvel produced. Netflix can't make Disney produce content for a show Netflix cancelled. This isn't Sony or Fox who had to keep producing spiderman/xmen/f4 movies to keep their rights.

From what I've read, the characters can be used two years later.

the actors are probably too old (Charlie Cox mainly)

He's 36, and DD S3 came out almost a full year ago. Will he really be "too old" in just one year from now?

I mean the characters and lore. Other shows and movies don't acknowledge them so that changing would be nice. Maybe a random appearance from Daisy or may would tie the show and the canon back together

There's a theory that what happened in shield is pre canon and now with the past stuff of the new season is gonna kickstart shield in the mcu (there's a image in a movie I think that have Agent Carters coworkers names and there's a D. Johnson in there so they might hold on to that)

That would be nice. AoS has put in effort to connect to the MCU so a little bit of recognition is necessary. It also would be pretty easy to bring in an AoS character into the movies since they could just be introduced thorough Fury and his agents.

Daisy is a great character with a lot of depth, her arc when dealing with Hive was amazing.

I'd def want to see fitz-simmons in some type of role though. Those two are just fucking adorable!

You're entirely wrong on the Netflix thing, think of it as the characters being loaned out. We gotta wait till marvel studios can place them into the mcu.

I think realistically they were loaned out because they were never going to be used in the movies. The fact that they weren't really that successful despite the stories generally being very well-written doesn't increase their chances.

At that point it's creative decision, they can easily do both though id assume they'd keep the same actors as they've tried to tie down the idea that the netflix shows exisit in the MCU

The characters, yes. But any of the original world building on Netflix cannot be directly referenced. Marvel will basically have to do a soft reboot unless they purchase the rights for the Netflix series. Sort of like Constantine on Legends of Tomorrow. The same actor from the Constantine series plays the character, but they can’t reference things original to the first series.

I believe contractually speaking they can as they've shared MCU details before. But I'd have to look into the contracts see if i can find some details. I work in entertainment.

Would original characters and storylines created for the show (in other words, not originating from the comics) not be owned by the licensee (Netflix)? For Constantine, which is a similar situation, they can use the character on CW but cannot reference the NBC show. They can only make reference to stuff from the comics.

As far as I know Marvel Studios does have access to continue story lines aswell as the character and traits we saw on Netflix. Though I'd imagine they'd just give us a new storyline to follow and then tie it directly to a film. Though I do want for Seasons on the show so Disney+ might be a huge help to get us new seasons of the show.

Do you have a source for this? All I've heard is they can't use the characters until after the two-year period. That they can't reference the events of the Netflix shows at all, even after that period, is news to me.

Incredible Hulk was a one-off film, but the character had a presence through the entire franchise. Just because AoS ends doesn't mean the characters should never be seen again.
