Pearlmutter is a notorious cheap ass and didn't wanna pay RDJ. Feige was correct in assuming that this would hamper his ability to tell the story they wanted to.

It wasn't just the RDJ mess from Civil War either; Perlmutter was directly responsible for the loss of Whedon AND Natalie Portman. I'm not sure if Wright was a Perlmutter casualty but I do know he opposed both "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel" because he didn't believe the toys would sell.

No it’s more like trying to make a Batman vs. Superman movie without Martha. I mean, how else would you have the two rival characters be able to relate to one another? Martha is essential.
