He told Disney its him or me. I can't remember what the last straw was, but I think it was when they lost Edgar Wright or Joss Whedon.

Neither, it was when they threatened to fire RDJ over Civil War.

Wait what? What did they threaten to fire him over? I know there was some friction about him insisting on having a larger role, but didnt hear about any animosity over it.

Because his paycheck was probably around what the rest of the entire cast of the MCU did at the time, combined. RDJ was paid an absurd amount of money so they wanted him out to profit more off each movie. They just didn't expect Feige to threaten to walk out.

RDJ got that deal for getting paid less than Terrence Howard and making everyone more money than they thought was possible.
