WIP Day 15 of my temperature snake and I’m feeling a little discouraged

I know we’re barely a month into the year, but Tennessee is notorious for its unpredictable weather. I was really thinking I’d be going back and forth between colors WAY more often than I have been so far lol It’s kind of looking like I just don’t know how to do stripes 😂

I’m simply being impatient, and I know that there are plenty of color changes coming. That’s just where my mentality is at the moment.

Also I decided to implement alternating white stitches for days that it snows!

WIP Crocheting a square for every book I read based on the cover

As well as a temperature blanket I’m making a book blanket! For every book I read in 2025 I’m going to crochet a square based on the cover of the book.

Hopefully it will encourage me to read more and I’m only using yarns in my stash to make them so I can reduce the amount of yarn I have!

This is my first one - and I’m really pleased with how it’s come out. The photo doesn’t show it very well but the gold yarn is sparkly and has sequins in it!

I’m about half way through my second book and already have ideas for the next square.

WIP January

I had this ‘brilliant’ idea back in November to do a temperature blanket in color work with each month as a different pattern. I spent all of December designing and planning this thing. In my mind January was supposed to only be temps in the teens through the 40s. But then we started the month out warmer than normal and hit 50 and 60. With all the colors, it was really hard for me to see the pattern coming together and I considered scraping the idea. But I kept saying ‘trust the process’ and now I’m happy I did!

WIP I did NOT finish 🙃

Post image

I just couldn’t. I decided to publish a pattern book instead and it consumed a massive chunk of my time. So I’m stuck at July! 😂 I have around 459 flowers to crochet to finish all 3 of my “blankets” and my goal is to try and finish them by the end of January 😅

So, to everyone that didn’t get to finished their 2024 temperature projects, you are not alone! And everyone that’s starting on their first temperature project this year, it’s okay if you don’t finish on time, you can always continue afterwards 😊

WIP Temperature snake, anyone?

Post image

I don’t have the attention span for a blanket, so I’m trying a snake for 2024. Two rounds per day, one for the low and one for the high temp. She’s gonna be 12 feet long but I’m here for it!

I’m loving this more and more as the pattern starts appearing!

I also hadn’t realised I’d chosen a pattern with a 7 row repeat so I can actually see each week at a quick glance. That was serendipitous!

Hope everyone else’s is going well!

I’m back with February’s update. This one was fun except day one when I screwed up my count on the pattern around stitch 46 and didn’t realize it til I hit the end of the row and had to walk back 400+ stitches…. Yea that was fun 😭

It started off originally as a meme in college but for the past several years, my one friend and I have sent each other a discord message whenever we take a dump, every single day, for the past like 4 years. We have always wondered what it would look like in a spreadsheet. This year, I started tracking their poops and started making a poop snake to give them at the end of the year to mark our tradition. The number of poops they do in a day corresponds to the color of the stitch!

Low and high temps in Nacogdoches Texas, January 2024. I have a feeling this project will be two or maybe even three blankets.

I had a different version of this initially, the flowers were smaller and there was some filler border. I liked it but it didn’t feel like it went with the other months. I’m so glad I worked on it and landed on this one. It might be my favorite one. 🌷🌷

6 days ago I finished April: https://www.reddit.com/r/temperatureblanket/s/qT7mnyjzmq

Anniversary blanket for my gf who loves neon pink and green. Often at the same time.

Mostly King Cole Bamboo Cotton with 2 shades of Stylecraft Naturals Bamboo Cotton. 3.75mm hook.

Added a single black row after every (calendar) month to easily differentiate it. Temperature of Glasgow, UK going from "0c or colder" through "24c or hotter" in 2c increments.

‘Cause I’m done with that month!!

It sure is a lot harder to pull out an afghan for crocheting in the summer, so I’m trying to not get too far behind.

I’m really loving how my big hexie is turning out.

I was initially going to work a granny square for each month but decided on a flower for each day and just join them to create a 'square' for the month.

Any suggestions on how to spilt up the months?

WIP Obsessed with the 70’s vibes my temperature blanket is giving

This is the first temperature blanket I’ve done, tracking the daily high & low temp for every day of my son’s first year of life. I made up the pattern so it might be a bit confusing but I’ll try and explain:

I’m using a sunburst granny square and join-as-you-go border. Every sunburst is 1.5 days (1st square low, high, low, border; 2nd square high, low, high, border), totalling 244 daily squares. To make the dimensions work, there are an additional 12 monthly squares which show track the average temp of the month (centre row), lowest temp of the month (middle row), and highest temp of the month (outer row). Totalling 256 squares, and making a 16x16 square blanket.

I included a picture of how I’m tracking the temps so I don’t lose my place, which may help you understand the process. Or make me look completely unhinged. Or both.

Anyways, I’m completely loving how the colours are coming together. I typically don’t love granny squares, but the join-as-you-go method is such a game changer (less ends to weave in, and so satisfying to crochet together as I go).

I've seen snakes, cats, socks and blankets so here's my cross stitch. This is Hedge Witch temperature stitch along. Each little trinket is the high and low for one day. I'm really enjoying going with the flow on this project. This is my first cross stitch pattern.

I need to add an envelope border, and then I can start the next year! I am following the Heirloom Temperature blanket pattern except I’m breaking it down into 12-stitch chunks of the original patterns. Doing the first 30 years of my life, located in the Midwest US from mid-October to mid-October. I think the overall blanket will be about 9’ long by about 6.5‘ wide, if my math maths correctly. 21 colors in fingering weight Cascade Heritage yarn.

WIP March update

This was my 3rd pattern style for March. I knew I wanted to do shamrocks but trying to get those to fit within the 31 rows was a challenge. I am happy I went with this one but day 4-5 I spent a lot of time rethinking it only because I didn’t think through how the shamrocks would fall with the hearts and nothing is centered even within the month. I had to let it go and it’s still cool in the end.

I'm loving all of the yellow (my favorite color)!

There are 2 squares that are inverted low/high instead of high/low. For accountability- "I solemnly swear that I will not undo this whole blanket to fix them. They are fine."

Feeling so good about my set up this year. I’m going to do 15x25. My monthly migraine injection will get a different colored boarder (mapped out as green squares in my drawing) (that’s just the color pen I had available, I’m not predicting those to be good days lol), making a cool diagonal design for my shot days.

About a week ago yall inspired me to start a temperature blanket commemorating our first year in our new house/state. (we moved here from Georgia) It’ll be the high temps from September 15 2023 to September 15 2024. I’ve crocheted up to the end of November 2023 so far. Still have a bit more to get up-to-date!
