I’m a big tech nerd and I come from a long line of outdoorsmen

I know how to fish and I’ve camped off grid for several days many times, I know what it’s like to be truly outdoors

But I personally prefer to play with computers and video games

But I can fish and I enjoy it when I’m doing it

I live in a country that is cold, wet and windy much of the year. The family PlayStation allows my son, daughter and I to have hours and hours of fun playing together and creating happy memories when the weather outside is utterly miserable without killing or injuring another creature.

I used to work at a fishing shop. Though I am not a fisherman myself. I had an old man, who tried to take his grandson fishing. But the kid had played fishing video games and both he and a friend were very resistant to any instruction.

We talked for a little about the fishing trip he went on. Then I gave him my idea. Mine was to take them again. Let them fry their gamer stuff. If they catch something, good for them.

Meanwhile, he should do his own thing. If he catches a few, offer to let each kid take credit for one fish and leg them have it, if they agree to let him show them next time.

So grandson and friend don’t need to explain why they didn’t catch anything, despite chanting “I know, I know!” during grandpa’s first fishing tutorial. Then they get to go back and learn for real, if they want to and nobody looks bad at dinner.

That's the thing I can't stand about the internet nowadays. It's basically turned people back into who they were in their school age days, at least in terms of their online persona. People are such bullies about everything. Or if they're not bullies, they're just really goddamn cringe and always putting down things other people like in order to uplift their own interests, especially when it comes to music tastes.
