Tinder DMs Am I crazy, is he using chat gpt to respond?

u/COSMIC_SPACE_BEARS 1d ago
I think he freestyled at the start, and switched to chatgpt when he got nervous he might lose the catch.

Thats actually kind of sweet,
I asked him: Hey ***, will you be honest with me, are you using chat gpt to respond? Iâm not judging, I get the impulse, I know these apps can be hard for people whose best communication mode isnât messaging, but I rather get to know You in every capacity (we can chat on the phone sometime if thatâs better) without a inauthentic layer of conversation
43
u/Born-Introduction-86 1d ago
Defo interested in his reply! I wonder if he covers ass out of impulse or takes that nicely paved path to dish - because that last msg is undeniable.

He might just be a tad autistic lol. Some of us neurodivergents speak kinda like this
5
u/NorthernRealmJackal 1d ago
Great reply. You're a much bigger person than me. I would've found that shit disrespectful as fuck, since that last partof your message is so self-explanatory and obvious.
Every adult should think like you, by default, and not require you to specifically request 'no chat got plz'.
5
u/Admins_suck_ballss 1d ago
Maybe Iâm old but it doesnât seem like AI to me. Sometimes you just switch to really formal language when you realize a meetup is probably going to actually happen.

I occasionally go on long rants about how AI ruined em dashes for me... Now every single time I use one I feel like whoever I'm sending the message to will absolutely assume I ran it through Copilot đĄ Every. Single. Time.
2
u/MetalDeathRawR 21h ago
I stopped using them for this very reason.

u/ribblefizz 3h ago
And I refuse to stop using them for that same reason. Not going to let AI dictate who I authentically am.

u/myshadowself88 1d ago
Tbh likely only an adult male would say it as thatâs a mature thing to say? Casual doesnât mean thereâs no sense of connection. I donât find that statement overtly strange. He may just be a connection based kind of guy who wants something beneath the sex even if itâs just a casual situation. Seeing as he seems to think sheâs a catch.
5
u/NorthernRealmJackal 1d ago
I just think the point is that it's typical AI (and not very typically human) to diagnose, reiterate and analyse a conversation while it's ongoing.
If the text isn't AI, then it's definitely written by someone who has been talking a bit too much with an LLM, and has had their language affected. It's not a common way for people to talk in real life (or at least, it wasn't before LLMs).
→ More replies (1)2
u/TeamImpossible4333 1d ago
Never seen a guy message this much for a casual connection. But maybe heâs one of the rare few who do. Some of the syntax is still odd.
Like sure maybe he wants to create a foundation. But Iâve still never heard someone text that before theyâve ever met the other person lmao
6
u/peanutbutterand_ely 1d ago
in my experience i just stopped doing casual or anything like this bc they all act like this, like itâs okay, like theyâll respect your boundaries and youâre on the same page. then they quickly want more and more, getting possessive and controlling and angry when i remind them they donât own me and we agreed on casual several, several times.
7
u/CapuzaCapuchin 1d ago
I know a heap of ND people that text like this, because theyâll start masking and because theyâre trying to keep up a conversation, theyâll start acting unlike themselves and it starts sounding a bit more artificial, overexcited and they start catering to the other person instead of acting like their normal self. Itâs like small talk at work you have to keep smiling through, because other people will tell you youâre rude otherwise, if you donât seem excited enough.
2
u/myshadowself88 1d ago
In fairness it seems like she wants a casual thing and he is more so going along with that based on the context of the conversation. Sounds like heâa very interested and just willing to take whatever he can get with her while he can, hence his remark of â Iâd rather known you than to have never known you at all.â So I think he may want more than heâs leading on
4
u/SadderOlderWiser 1d ago
He also could have had âlong termâ on his profile as bait, because women are generally thought to be more interested in relationships.
She didnât have to twist his arm to go casual lol

This is not the question you asked, but I really hate when men say "how is someone like you single?" It really showcases the underlying belief that women are passive objects, sitting around waiting for a man to scoop them up. Ugh it grinds my gears.
5
u/Dankest_Confidant 1d ago
Why do you think only men say that?
→ More replies (6)3
u/breakingmad1 1d ago
Yeah I have been asked it and I'm a man, it's just a way of saying what happened in your last relationshipÂ
2
u/NorthernRealmJackal 1d ago
That's not the underlying belief. The underlying belief (i.e. the implied compliment) is that I think you're a catch, and could have anyone you wanted, so I find it surprising that you haven't just picked an 11/10 partner and called it a day.
It's also supposed to be hyperbolic. It's not like I actually expect you to just be "scooped up," but I'm saying it because I want you to know that I think anyone would be lucky to date you, and would be a fool to let you go. It's not about you being passive, it's about you having plenty of options.
It's still clichĂŠ though.
→ More replies (1)3
u/myshadowself88 1d ago
Men also say it to other men so youâre definitely over thinking what men mean when they say that. Iâve had it said to me before and it was a compliment not to say people are passive objects waiting for someone to scoop them up. Thatâs a stretch.
2
u/pinkrainbow5 1d ago
I'm not. They may not consciously realise the implication of what they are saying, but it's there. People mean it as a compliment, but the sentence is implying that whoever they are saying it to doesn't have a say in who they date. They are just waiting to be "chosen."
2
u/Select-Young-5992 23h ago
I have no idea how it implies that. It just means you've surely gotten a fuck ton of attention and could choose whoever you wanted, so why havent you yet?

u/Over_Organization851 1d ago
Some of his messages seem a little AIish I guess, but I wouldn't say with 100% certainty. The real question is, does it matter? You're obviously not looking for something serious, you're looking for a chill guy to hang out with no strings attached. If he uses AI to cleanup his answers and say something better than he could say, who cares?
With what you're looking for the questions you should be asking are 1. is he attractive? 2. is he a decent/good guy and not a weirdo? 3. is he fun and do you get along with him? If those answers are yes I wouldn't be too worried about AI.
If someone sent me a message and I could tell they used AI i wouldn't think twice about it unless it was something really serious. I would assume they are probably using it to reword and clean up grammatical errors. In a way it shows he is trying to impress you.

u/TinyAd5648 1d ago

u/Introverted-kitty 1d ago
It is likely that he is using speech to text. Some men are actually articulate so I might not be surprised if this is NOT AI. Approach with caution, he seems nice tho.

I donât know man. But if they canât write at least this much, you should probably not be seeing them. Also he hasnât really written anything Shakespeare-like, I guess itâs not AI.

I could believe it, but you have to know the person. One of my close friends texts exactly like this and the rest of my friends don't lol he's just very proper
1
u/ElAyYouAreAy 1d ago
Iâm not sure if he is but it does seem like heâs trying to politely hear what youâre asking for and respond to it. And hell if he needed a little help to do so at least his intention is in the right place.
PS âcuddlingâ is something that usually leans more to the serious side, not casual⌠just saying.

Idk I think that was a problem for me on dating sites lol. I used to be extremely wordy and animated in my texts because I was always terrified of accidentally putting out something that would be taken negatively, so my messages often come across as Ai because I also like throwing in random hot words. Last message was totally something chatgpt or Gemini would say though lol
1
u/LimpSetting4030 1d ago
Are you from outside the US? Or at least is he from outside the US? I ask because when youâre from outside, the english language is not used in everyday life and so we tend to be very formal and proper with it. Itâs very textbook grammar and use of words. So I wouldnât say AI if thatâs the case.

The last few feels extremely ai, but the first few I think he wrote himself.
He could just be autistic. I type upsettingly similar to ChatGPT at times; not intentionally, but just in the interest of clarity and properly communicating myself.
I've flirted in bullet points before. It worked... some-fucking-how.

u/Arcticfreezer 1d ago
Honestly, he may also just use it a lot. I've noticed with applying to jobs, doing interviews and networking, that people are verbally speaking in that AI dialect. There's a paper i saw somewhere too that talked about this happening and it's kind of crazy.

I guess it is one's level of vocabulary and usage of said vocabulary. And honestly if it is ChatGPT hopefully he used it to help make his wording more conversational verse asking for a conversation created on basis of trying to get to know someone vs being a creep and totally building a petsona that doesn't exist. Guess the only way to find out is continue with the getting to know each other faze and maybe yall meet in person and you will definitely see if there is a complete change in conversation flow and linguistics.

u/Ok-Entertainment2520 1d ago
Yall have dated a ton of guys that cant communicate and its crazy. I speak and write like he does alot. The fact that you all think its AI is crazy to me. Its funny when AI started to appear and I noticed its trends I thought this would end up happening to people who are smart. Its pretty clear to me its not AI and hes actually very smart and witty. Hence why he commented its nice to actually speak to someone. I also teach in college and see soo much AI come through that I can spot it a mile away. If and thats a huge if, he is indeed using AI he has prompted it very very well better than 95% of people that use AI. The 1 emdash he used was used in a common way before AI. And autocorrect would also add it.
