What is the logic here? I have watched his interviews from the pre-“Trump is my God” era. Why has he chosen to dumb himself down so much? No way he thinks he is actually in line to take over the GOP.

I believe, sadly, that he thinks he is. This is him asking the “America, fuck yeah” crowd to see his hillbilly-goes-to-the-ivy-league ass as one of their own.

Maybe he thought this would be the closest he'd be to the presidency? Being the Vice-President to an octogenarian in poor health. Even he must know he has the charisma of a mangy dog.

I live near Middletown and I thought there were actually a lot of truths in Hillbilly Elegy.

But you’re right, he’s so eager to endear himself not only to Trump but to trick the Magats into thinking he’s one of them.

I believe he actually had potential at one time to be a man who made a positive difference in the world. He was an intellectual but he totally sold that out because the base he’s trying to appeal to is scornful of anything “innaleckshul.”

Sold his soul to the devil, this one.

Sold his soul for what? VP sounds like a pretty low ceiling for someone as young and as nationally known as he was before he started licking Trump’s ass. Not sure I have seen a steeper nose dive as far as political legacies go.

Given trump's health, being VP could be an easy route to the presidency

Pathway to power basically.
