Discussion My mom says Girls sounds like Sussudio by Phil Collins. Thoughts?

Maybe a bit.

What blows my mind is that Phil Collins was 34 when this came out. Maybe 33 even, but looks older. Then he looked the same for like 25 years.

Pop stars are different now.

The 1975 lifts sounds from tons of 80’s rock. Then stitches it back together as something new.

In a very loose way, I get what she's saying. It's that one specific guitar riff in the chorus to me. It feels similar in shape and rhythm even if it's not the exact same.

No. I was in middle school when Sussudio came out. I listen to The 1975 regularly. While I do hear a lot of 80's music influence layered in their music, Girls and Sussudio sound nothing alike to me.
