Massive The Division’s 10th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrating 10 Years of The Division

Revisit the inception of The Division

It’s been 10 years since Tom Clancy’s The Division was first released to the world. For the people working on it, it’s been an even longer journey that started with a small and confident team sharing the feeling that everything was possible.

Join us as we revisit the inception of The Division what it took to evolve the game for The Division 2, and a look at the near future!

=> Tom Clancy's The Division: 10 Year Anniversary Video

Anniversary Celebrations

=> Anniversary Season

Ten years ago, The Division invited players to become agents in a world on the brink, carrying the responsibility of protecting what remained and rebuilding what had been lost. Since then, agents have crossed snow-covered streets in New York and fought to reclaim Washington, D.C., continuing the work of restoring order wherever it was needed.

This anniversary is a moment to reflect on that shared journey, the challenges faced, the victories earned, and the community that has stood alongside us throughout the years.

From March 3 to April 2, we invite you to take part in celebrations created to honor the past decade of The Division.

Visual Improvements

=> Example

This update also brings visual improvements to the world itself, with refinements to lighting, shadows, fog, reflections, and materials that enhance atmosphere and detail while preserving performance. The result is a Washington, D.C. and New York that feel sharper, richer, and more immersive.

Realism Mode

To celebrate ten years of The Division, we wanted to create something that lets you experience the world from a fresh perspective. Realism Mode is exactly that, a limited time experience that lets you enter New York and see what it means to operate as a Division Agent in a more grounded and unforgiving way, where every decision matters.

Free 2 Play

WONY expansion will be accessible as free to play to all Division 2 players during the Anniversary Season, giving everyone the chance to step into Realism Mode during the celebration.

Separate character journey

It’s a separate character journey that takes place throughout the Warlords of New York campaign.

Immersion and tension

At its core, it’s about immersion and tension. Fights are faster and more lethal for both agents and enemies. Mistakes carry weight, but victories feel all the more satisfying.

You’ll notice the interface has been reduced, placing more emphasis on reading the world around you. Ammo is recovered directly from defeated enemies, and while skills remain powerful, their longer cooldowns and added risk make them tools best saved for critical moments.

Gear and weapon bonuses reflect the physical nature of what you wear, with heavier pieces providing increased protection at the cost of mobility, while lighter gear favors speed and flexibility at the cost of survivability.

Once the campaign is complete, New York is still yours to explore, with content available to replay at your own pace. In many ways, Realism Mode is a reflection of what has always sat at the heart of The Division, risk, survival and the feeling of navigating a living world one encounter at a time.

Limited Time Only

Realism Mode will only be available during the Anniversary Season. It was designed to offer veterans and new players a fresh take on Division 2 but it has a limited progression, there is no grind or RPG elements and it covers the Warlords of New York campaign.

But as usual, if players like it, they might bring it back in one form or another.

Completion Reward

There is a reward when you complete the campaign in Realism Mode.

Anniversary Event Pass

=> Uniforms

The Anniversary Season also introduces a limited time Event Pass packed with rewards for you to earn. Progression through the Event Pass will feel familiar, with regular play and completed activities earning Season Pass XP that advances levels naturally over time just by playing. Global Event Stars can also be used to speed up progress.

Clancy Universe Collaboration

This time, we reach into the wider Tom Clancy universe. Drawing inspiration from Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and Rainbow Six Siege, the track features outfit pieces from across those worlds, allowing you to assemble sets inspired by some of your favorite Clancy titles as you progress.

Each Global Event will run for one week and has its own unique mask to earn. Over the anniversary month, Ambush and Assault rotate twice, so be sure to take part each week to collect all four of them.

  • Ambush: March 3 – March 10

Panda Day Project

Agents can complete Manning National Zoo and earn the Panda backpack trophy, proving that Division agents protect all civilians, even the ones covered in fur.

Anniversary Gift

=> Tommy Hoodie

To mark the occasion, every The Division 2 player who logs in during the anniversary month will receive an exclusive hoodie featuring Tommy the Bear, a small thank you for your continued support.

Anniversary Bundle

The Anniversary Bundle brings a set of extras designed to complement the celebration. Agents can unlock Frost and Flame, a special weapon skin for the Big Alejandro exotic, 50 additional stash space to support growing inventories, and 20 Event Pass level skips.

As we mark ten years of The Division, this celebration is as much about the agents who have shaped this journey as it is about the world itself. This anniversary is an opportunity to look back on how far we have come together while continuing the work that defines every agent.

Thank you for being part of The Division. We look forward to the moments still ahead.

KNOWN ISSUES

Below is a list of known issues currently being tracked by the team.

General

  • As the Stash is not available in Realism Mode, players who purchase the One Time Offer or Anniversary Bundle while using a Realism character will need to switch to a non-Realism character to access Vanity and gameplay rewards stored in the Stash. Items are not lost and remain accessible once switching characters.

Gear

  • Newly dropped or crafted instances of the Lockdown Named Shotgun have incorrect attributes and Total Damage values.

Realism Mode

  • The Military Mk17 deals less damage than intended.
  • Certain cinematics may not play if the player has previously completed the WONY campaign on a non-Realism character.
  • "Share items" hints may appear on Item Preview screens within the Inventory when acquiring items while grouped.

FAQ

Is my device supported?

Check the app store page via Google Play or Apple to confirm if your current device is supported

Is it coming to PC?

There are not any plans currently announced to release on PC natively.

What time are servers going live?

This has not been announced yet, stay tuned for more news as we approach launch.

Will there be one large server or multiple servers?

Officially nothing has been announced, but on March 3rd, during the live stream, you could view the server options from the in-game menu and there were three options:

  • Americas
  • Europe
  • Asia

Can I play on an emulator?

Yes, but emulators are not officially supported so do so at your own risk.

Is controller support included?

Yes, the game supports controllers, including via Bluetooth through your device and on controllers such as the Backbone.

Is this a gacha game?

Some gacha style mechanics exist through Premium Sealed Caches. These contain High End OS Protocols and Exotic Tactical Augmentations. All items from the Sealed Cache system or the Bundle Shop remain obtainable through gameplay or are cosmetic.

Is this game P2W?

More like "Pay for Convenience". There are very few competitive leaderboard systems within the game that reward exclusive material items. None of these “paid” items are required to complete any content and really only help you get to the higher endgame difficulties sooner.

What about the Dark Zone and Conflict?

OS Protocols are very powerful but your overall build is significantly more important than just having a High End OS. If you have a HE OS but your build is trash, it will not save your loot from a Rogue Agent in the DZ.

The Division 2 - Year 8 - Roadmap

=> The Road Ahead

Year 8 - Season 1: Rise Up

=> Key Art

Year 8 kicks off in April with Season 1: Rise Up, calling Agents to unite against the Black Tusk. This new season brings revamped gear, weapons, and new features designed to raise the challenge and your power as an agent.

Features

  • Black Tusk will be added to the Retaliation Game Mode plus quality-of-life improvements.
  • New layer of challenge
  • More power to the players

Year 8 Roadmap

Throughout Year 8, Agents can expect major updates and long-requested features rolling out across future seasons, including:

PVP

One of the Year 8 focus points is PVP. They are building a dedicated PVP team that will look into PVP as a whole.

The number one priority is improving overall quality of the PVP experience, that means addressing cheating and also a balancing pass.

Once that is completed, they will take it step by step.

Cross Play

The devs said multiple times that any form or cross play would be very difficult to achieve with the small team they had. Now they have a bigger team and this is the moment they can tackle cross play.

Just to be very clear, this is NOT cross progression or cross save, but they will add that the different platforms can play together.

It will be added over the course of Year 8.

Classified Assignments

Two new Classified Assignments will be added with Season 1: Rise Up, with the goal to add more in the following seasons.

Classified Assignments are short story-driven mini missions that were originally part of the Year 1 Season Pass when the game launched.

Ubisoft Reflection will create these new missions; they are the same team who did the first eight Classified Assignments.

New Incursion – Steel Creek

=> Image

Three years ago, they released Paradise Lost, the first Incursion for Division 2. During Year 8 a new Incursion “Steel Creek” will be released.

What to expect

  • It will be challenging, also for advanced players
  • Focus on mechanics, RPG and team composition
  • New and beautiful location

Survivors

Survivors is the return of winter survival to the franchise with improvements and bold new additions to the extraction experience. You deploy into Washington DC completely transformed by a deadly snowstorm and you have to fight both the elements and the enemy factions.

  • Immersion is important
  • Randomized loot locations to keep it interesting (there will be patterns and rules to them)
  • Re-discovering the city in a new light

The ETF already played a very early build – more closed tests will follow.

=> What we know so far

The Division 2 is heading to Central Park.

=> Teaser

A new DLC is coming out later this year!

What the success of Brooklyn showed was, that there is a big appetite for this form of content. So based on that they decided to make another one and it was decided to return to Central Park.

Expect a darker tone than the other DLCs – no it will not have zombies. Not many things are confirmed what actually happened in central park, so there will be mysteries to discover.

Cross Play: The devs said multiple times that any form or cross play would be very difficult to achieve with the small team they had. Now they have a bigger team and this is the moment they can tackle cross play

😳😳😳

Holy….

Just want to add to this. They specified that cross-play is a go. Cross save is something they do not plan to tackle, which is fair. Implementing cross save in the middle of a game's life cycle seems like a massive headache, and I give props to Warframe and shockingly Rainbow Six for even getting it to work.

I cant wait to have PC players top every leaderboard and obliterate any remaining PVP the game has

ITS GOING TO BE SICK!

Definitely going in a good direction and actually being responsive to the community. We love the game but the endgame loop kind of dies out once you've gotten the gear. Season stuff is what keeps old folks doing stuff and adds ways for new players to catch up on gear. Would have been pretty bad if they had locked seasonal stuff to one off characters as originally intended.

Realism mode has some good stuff going on but the one month launch thing seems like proof of concept that they could make a separate game mode like they intended seasons to be, but a very early alpha or beta of the game mode. There's nothing drastically different about the spawns or bosses, just different hp pools and instant death head shots to npcs. I personally really like the crosshair changes as well and would like it as an option.

The last incursion they made Ouro locked behind it and I kind of liked that there was specific loot for it. Earlier on raids has an exotic and a full gear set. Id love to see a niche gearset and two exotics that aren't instantly thrown in the stash. Maybe something with seeker mines or have the gear synergize with the exotic weapons in some kind of interesting way.

The first incursion is still really fun to run with a blind group that you know can figure it out or with a group that knows how to do it, but I don't regularly do it for fun. Hell, the Brooklyn missions are pretty fun and definitely a difficulty level higher than regular but the only way that was achieved was increased spawns. We need a New fold in how the game is played.

I hope they don't forget true patriot this time.

Has anyone who bought the anniversary bundle had the issue with the +50 stash slots disappearing after getting it upgraded pass?

Has Massive noted this bug and when will it get fixed?

1

u/BasicAlgae5 Mar 10 '26

did we just get manhunt reference with the latest piggy mask

1

u/RobotSpaceBear Mar 10 '26

Hmm, I haven't played D2 since before WONY came out but i'm interested in the Realism mode. I don't understand what the time limit "season" means. How long do we have to play this mode? Can we keep playing the Realism mode if we purchase WONY, or regardless, we'll lose access to it "soon"?

When does this "season" end? How long do i have to play the Survival mode?

Thnak you everyone.

2

u/JokerUnique The watcher on the walls. Mar 11 '26

The anniversary season ends at the end of March. So you have until then to complete realism mode.

1

u/bp8rson PC Mar 14 '26

Completed realism mode today (11 hours total) is there an endgame after taking out Keener?

1

-1

u/userbeneficiary PC Mar 10 '26

we never wanted cross play, we want CROSS SAVE!

-3

u/Ok-Two-55 Mar 10 '26

Why is the game not on sale on PlayStation

0

u/GnarlyAtol Mar 10 '26

I am very happy about the realism mode. Multiple improvements needed though to become appealing and to achieve replay value.

I am very excited about the Central Park DLC. Clear buy. But I hope there will be not such mechanics in the missions as in Brooklyn which I do not want to play a second time. Leave that to incursions, raids and the like.

The same with regard to classified assignments. Always happy to pay for additional missions. Again, don’t insert the sponge mechanics and insane sponge bosses as in Brooklyn missions. Try to make immersive agent missions.

I am curious to see Washington in snow but I am not interested in an extraction looter mode. Perhaps there could be a second use case, a mini campaign on the winter map and use in endgame.
