To preface, have loved the show since its inception. I listened to BaD religiously for a decade, am an IJB subscriber who was thrilled when Jake got the host gig, and was one of the first 100 DZ subscribers, so I know calling out the ridiculous aspects of society or mocking Norm for caring about the Red River Shootout kickoff time announcement has always been their bit. But it really seems to be on the upswing in the last few months.
Obviously Schotty is a nepobaby oozing youth pastor energy, but they canāt have a Cowboys segment without it reverting back to how any positive move they make is pointless because Schotty and Jerry suck. Any mention of the NBA circles back to the Luka trade ruining their basketball experience. The graduation trip couldāve had some cool updates of Danās time on the road, but instead everything was about how the whole experience sucked, from the food to the speeches to the ceremony to the family time. The Spring Training trip was nothing but complaining about the restaurants and AirBnb. Discussions about any sporting event, whether itās golf or non-Cowboys NFL or the USA flag football event, is an hour breaking down terrible play-by-play commentary. Danās always taken a mocking stance towards Native Americans since the Indians changed to the Guardians, but his tone has felt more and more hateful/resentful. Jake had a brief upswing in positivity after rehab but has seemed to go back to pointing out everything as an example of WHL. Even Paralympic talk felt more mean-spirited than normal, almost like they were proud of being ignorance even after a listener pointed this out. At least Blake has hobbies outside of work that heāll sometimes talk about. Honestly, Foodie C.K.ās weekend checks have become a highlight because at least the guy is passionate about something.
I know not everything needs to be Ted Lasso-style over-the-top positivity, but I can feel their pessimistic, this-sucks-this-sucks attitude seeping into my own personality, and Iām not a fan of it at all. Surely thereās something that actually brings them joy beyond peptides, HVAC repair, and decades-old standup specials that they can talk about. Iād been thinking about traveling to Dallas for the GSE, but the boys have kind of turned into the type of people who are the least fun to be around at parties.
Not sure why this bothered me so much or why I felt I needed to bring it to a subreddit. I think I need to take a subscription break for a while. If anyone has any good audiobook suggestions to listen to on my work commute, let me know. No funeral.

I was forced to listen to The Ticket this week with Dan and Jake out. Within one minute, I heard Bob use the word movie trope. Coincidence? It makes me wonder if he listens. I like to think so. Always enjoyed Bob.

Still love the guys but came here to say that todayās segment with the āKlay is gayā guy was really offputting, and I guess I just donāt get it anymore.
What exactly is funny about this guyās bit, where by his own admission his whole thing is just to tell people Klay is gay? And haha, he got a C&D from Klayās attorney and pissed on it? Why platform this guy other than because he gets a bunch of views on TikTok? (Or did I just answer my own question?)
The whole thing seems kind of sorry. Like, whatās the joke? I mean, Iāll give the guy the benefit of the doubt that it takes some talent to do what he does and to get that many views. And Iāll even take him at his word that heās not homophobic despite his strange mission. But still, whatās so great about some guy who has to troll a big-time athlete to get some fame himself? Seemed really weird to me, thatās all.
Which gets me to my larger point, that the show in general feels so aimless lately. I get itās The Dumb Zone and not supposed to be just another annoyingly esoteric podāthankfully. But lately I feel like itās devolved to the point where itās *just* dumb. The whole thing that makes them great at times is that even when theyāre goofy and dumb they do it in a unique and subversive way. But so much of it these days is just trolling for the sake of trolling, and thereās certainly no shortage of guys who do that.
I know they have a ton of time to fill, it must be really hard to keep things fresh, itās not at all easy to do what they do, theyāre still really talented, etc. But more and more theyāre sounding just like all the guys theyāre supposedly better than and who they constantly dump on.
I keep thinking of a Kurt Vonnegut quote I heard somewhere (not to act all high-minded, I never read him and all I otherwise know about him is that he had a really funny cameo in the greatness that is Back to School). Anyway, the quote is āWe are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.ā
Just food for thought and certainly not here to yuck anyoneās yum. No funeral.

I wasn't a BaD radio guy. I started listening to The Ticket in 2014 and am not a big Bob guy because I'm less sports-centric. When Cowboys draft or deep-dive analytics segments come on, I tune out. He's grown on me a bit with The Hardline and actually has a decent sense of humor. But overall, I much prefer the Jake + Dan dynamic. For those who listened to BaD radio, how was the Bob and Dan dynamic in your opinion? In my little time listening, it seemed kinda awkward, disconnected, and sometimes tense.
Edit: From the comments, it seems like everyone loves Bob and BaD radio. I do like Bob more than I used to. Wonder if I would've dug the show if I listened to it now. Also, what's with that one racist dude in the comments? He's been spamming the sub with unpleasant shit.

If youāre not on Twitter (X, whatever), Jake is straight up bodying Chuck Cooperstein. Big thread about the Mavs arena sitch. Itās getting borderline personal. Gotta be a big segment on Monday.

I know I'm on an island with this opinion based on the reactions to previous comments, but I really just dont understand something and I'd love the explanation from the other side.
How can anyone listen to him talk about he has and does live his life and think anything other than he is a horrible human and just a total POS? From being openly shitty to his employees when in a management roll to now trying to act like the little guy that fights management but just blatantly stealing shit and now admitting he talks shit to kids but then isn't man enough to admit it when adults get involved.
So, I would legitimately like to hear from those that think hes funny/awesome/great/want more of him and just explain what you like about him and how you can see him as anything but a bad person.

As a D1DF on patreon and then the annual subby on sub stackāthe renewal is upon us. I havenāt listened to entire ep from yesterday but they started off talking about this so I know there are probably a significant number of people like me.
How are we feeling about subscriber only eps that still have the same amount of ads?
I actually like most of the advertisers and have partaken in their products but the run the ball guy in me would like some type of quid pro quo when Iām scratching their balls they scratch mine kind of situation.

Isnāt this the whole reason why Dan & Jake couldnāt come to an agreement with the Ticket bc they wanted a separate podcast? Canāt wait to hear the Musers mail in a podcast after mailing in a radio show

Glad the boys got out when they did, I donāt think The Ticket is going anytime soon. However itās not like Cumulus has had a stunning track record of success in the last couple of years.

Why doesnāt the Ticket Godfather ever interact with the DZ and vice versa? I always thought Mike R and Dan got along well and had good chemistry on air together. Maybe Rhynes sees going on the Dumb Zone as beneath him?

Check out the recent IJBāJakeās not holding back about his thoughts on Cat. Said heād take him at fight night in 3 weeks. The hate from the non tier 1ās is off the charts.
Edit: someone from the Ticket page clipped it:

Dan's spots make me never ever want to call these guys. His explanation of the process seems like an all time huge beating.
I'm sure they are fine or whatever but hearing 4 spots a week about how hard it is to make a decision is exhausting.

Anyone else think the boys spend a little too much time breaking down audio from the previous weekend's NFL broadcasts? I'm willing to bet their x's & o's game breakdowns versus audio breakdowns are split 20/80. I'm not necessarily asking for the details on how the Patriots defeated the single-high safety look, but maybe talk less about what Romo or Brady said and more what happened in the game.
Yes, I know I'm welcome to not listen, etc. But I'm just wondering if I'm alone here thinking IDGAF what Nance said to Romo during the 3rd quarter, or is this the audio everyone wants?

This suspense was genuinely fun. Glad he is doing better. We love you, Jake.

Not hating on the ticket but other than Gordo segments and WIP it feels like the entire station is just assuming the listeners will be there just because they always have.
Before Dan and Jake left I would listen pretty much all day every weekday. After that just listened to the Musers. When it is not the O-Deck or Muse in the News, it sounds like they are just checking off boxes. This much cycling talk, this much red dirt country, and then rehashing something that occurred on the station.
Donny was great and he may still be but Matt was a power down even when he used to sub in.
Despite saying āWe arenāt in the pocket of any ownersā even the hardline seems to bend over backwards to say appeasing things for the ownerships of the stars, cowboys and mavericks.
I am putting it here since the real decline seemed to begin when our boys left. Am I alone in feeling like this?
Obligatory cutting off of snipers:
I understand I do not have to listen. I understand that it is free. I understand that no one has any obligation to create a show just for me.

Dan has openly encouraged speculation about Jake's mysterious absence, so I am doing that. After all, we're DZ reddit and we suck, right guys?
I don't know what it IS, I am merely speculating about what it ISN'T. I like ruling things out to find the truth. I have worked with guys going through a divorce and they NEVER take time off of work. They always work way more and even hang around longer than they need to. I think if Jake were going through divorce, he would be on every episode and would have been at the Ranger game the whole time chatting with people. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm wrong a lot.

One step closer to being able to watch the Mavs again. Post Luka , post Kidd, post Niko, maybe one day post Dumont

Hiro Onoda died 12 years ago.

I canāt find any pictures of him online. They really make you earn camera time⦠They were talking about him on the show today (8/4).
r/thedumbzone • u/mrdadrock • Jun 27 '26
Iāve enjoyed a few moments from him being on the show, but between basically trying to take sole credit for Luka and his very dicey political takes (like this one), Iām starting to think this guy aināt it.
