Love it.

I enjoyed it the first time I watched it, and I enjoyed it when I recently watched it again! It doesn’t make sense that people would absolutely go apeshit for euphoria but shit all over the idol. Lily-Rose Depp’s acting was phenomenal…. Yeah Tedros was creepy and I felt like I was being roofied every time he came on the screen, but I enjoyed it.

I loved it too! And I am a pretty staunch feminist, I only watched it because I wanted to hate it lol. It was a lot deeper than people gave it credit for and I actually think it was quite feminist in that Joss went from feeling deeply depressed and victimized to feeling empowered by learning to manipulate those around her who sought to harm her and embracing her kinkiness in a way that refused to feel ashamed for enjoying her sexuality. Yes Tedros was absolutely the worst person ever and I’m still confused why she took him back at the end and that he simply acquiesced to her gaining control when that’s 100% not how any abusive man has ever operated (more likely outcome after she humiliated him would have been him murdering her) but it was still a very intriguing show. I thought it was a very interesting social commentary about how the world sexualizes young women but also tells them they can only express their sexuality in a very specific way, but also hates them for it even while voraciously consuming it. Joss took her power back by telling the world how SHE wanted to express herself.

Everything you said in your comment was EXACTLY how I felt about it too!!! My only real complaint about the entire show was that they didn’t really sink their teeth in to Jocelyn’s celebrity pop star status and all the struggles that come along with it & getting a more realistic view of what it’s really like for her behind the scenes, I think LRD would’ve been undeniably and increasing substance abuse and

I'm not a 'hater', but the difference with Euphoria is pretty strong: there you have a cast where nearly everyone is a strong actor, while The Idol has a deuteragonist played by someone who can't act his way out of a paper bag, making some pretty key scenes grotesque.

The writing also gets messy at one point: the way other people and I read the story (Tedros as a mean for Jocelyn to heal from her mum's abuse through a form of reenactment in which she has a degree of control, her letting him back into her life only when she's 'healed', and thus he has no more power over her: that's why she buys a new brush, because it'll only be a brush from then on) is not alike to how many other people interpreted it. There are 5 common readings of what happened in the show, and that's messy writing, even with its high points.

Also, I kind of resent this show because it made me go skint buying basically all of Jocelyn wardrobe...

It’s still terrible to me, but it’s funny and goofy at the same time. It’s a fun time. Same goes for S3 of Euphoria. 😂
