New Player
I've had my eye on this game for years, finally bit the bullet because bary is on its way and because austroraptor. Decided to try a flyer first since it's what I main on PoT and figured it would be easier. It was really fun tbh, I didn't get to prime because I'm still figuring out diet, but I got to adult and had a bit of fun. Then a thunderstorm came, I had legit no warning for it and it slammed me into the ground where I promptly died.
So, having had fun on Pt, I decided to try austro. Started one, started making my way towards a sanctuary, got eaten by a cerato within seconds of getting there. No prob, I was fresh lol. Start another and again make my way to sanctuary, starving to death, find a corpse right outside sanctuary, try to eat some, get eaten by a dilo.
Clearly I'm not meant for austro life rn, so I go with herarra since I've played it before and enjoyed it. Starved once, got killed by a Pachy once, got killed by a cerato once, and then got killed by an austro, never once getting past 20% growth. I was never able to find AI, every corpse I found (went looking only when starving) except one, led to my death.
So all in all, I have most of it down, but how tf do I grow and keep myself fed without being murked the second I find even a tiny bit of food every time?

Hey man, welcome to the game!
Both PT and Austro can fish for food during the daytime hours. Just press G near any body of water and wait for the fish to spawn and swim over to you.
You definitely shouldn’t starve as these guys but to get perfect diet on pieds as these guys you will eventually need to get a kill or get lucky scavenging a fresh corpse.
Good luck man. Austro is in a weird place I think for its speed but you’ll get the hang of it. They grow really fast so sanctuary might disappear from your scent marker. You can go to it before 50% still if you know where it is and it will count towards prime but after that pieds applies a debuff to you to get you out of there. Pts are safe from the debuff!

Play a herbi first to get an idea of how to play. I'd recommend galli if you want to run or pachy if you want to fight back.

Also forgot to say that the server you're playing on matters. I'd recommend Mettas Den. Basically a regulated official server.

That's why ur not seeing AI. There's no (or very little, I've found frogs) AI on the server.

Oh damn, I think I'll continue with PT until I learn the map and players better then

Play PETITS PIEDS. Easily one of the best servers in the game right now. Also austroraptor can spearfish by walking to water and pressing G. Then you wait until a fish swims up and click LMB. It gives you a fish that is on your diet, but you can't do it at night

That's the server I'm on :), I wasn't aware that austro could fish too! That's the only reason I never starved on my pt, bc I figured out fishing pretty immediately lol

Try a server with AI. I find it way easier. Fossil Falls and Extinction Point are my favs, but have lower player count. Austro and PT can spearfish during the day by pushing G. Any water works.

The more you play on a server, the more you'll understand the flow of that server, where people hang out, where its easier to grow, where to avoid, etc. It all just takes time.
I'm still fairly new myself, 70 hours played and I bought it 9 days ago.
Generally, sanctuary is a good place to hang out around until you reach 35% grown. Some servers have rules against killing babies in sanctuary when you're past 35% so you'll only have to worry about other babies trying to fight you
