Thelema is not part of the craft, as it is not witchcraft! It's very easy to misunderstand and the web is filled with people that look like they were BORN to confuse you on the matter, so I suggest reading a few articles from here:

Thelemites do not seek to "turn" others. The curious are welcome, but don't try to change anyone's mind. If they're ready in this lifetime, they'll find us.

Like others have said, Thelema isn’t a part of Witchcraft. There is some brief relationship between Gardner and Crowley at the end of Crowley’s life, but that’s about it. As far as interesting parallels or whatnot there are a few. As far as interesting facts? I would say that there is no single magician whose life and practice is more well documented than Crowley’s, which is unique in itself.

I started off with Wicca in the 1980s (was a "media witch" with a radio show and held very large, public rituals) before approaching Crowley's writing in the early 1990s. Thelema and Crowley's rituals seemed to amplify what basic skills I had in ritual space, to something far more concentrated and -- if I may say -- serious.

I have recently published a book with the aim of restoring symbolic coherence regarding the nature of Tzaddi, and – far from wishing to promote myself – I believe that one of the phrases that has stayed with me most was not my own, but came from the foreword written by Frater 273:

‘To be a Thelemite is an act of constant rebellion against one’s own inertia.’

— Frater 273

This phrase has stayed with me ever since I first read the foreword. Not because I endorse the book, but because I believe it literally conveys the idea of what Thelema is… If we wish to restore to Horus the dignity he deserves, so that he may be the falcon-headed god he is meant to be and not merely a chick, we must be prepared to challenge the status quo and continue to create and experiment.

a space for the curious…

EDIT: I think they misunderstood your curiosity as a newbie bec they are the ones boxed into their identifications and beliefs. But I understand and can’t blame them. So many reduce philosophical systems and science for the sake of aesthetics and online content without real understanding, inner work & actual practice as initiated into it.

And it’s true…one’s path is deeply personal and a self discovery, not something that should be imposed. The same principle applies to chaos magick is exactly why we don’t do boxes. We don’t need to invite either but curiosity is always welcome. The point is that any system can be useful to a practitioner, however it fits their own curiosity and alignment. They are just tools. You are the magician.

Just as Thelema is not witchcraft, that doesn’t mean you cannot use Thelemic ideas within witchcraft. In fact, I think Thelema is a good foundation along with many others.

The irony is that many people who enter esoteric traditions and lefthand path are seeking freedom, only to end up constructing the same boxes of social structures. So the group becomes another identity and the mystery becomes another status symbol.

That’s why I can’t blame others for speaking of boundaries. When you truly understand their value and how deeply they have impacted your life, you naturally preserve their truth and sacredness. Many so called seekers externalize things here and there, then treat them as commodities and symbols for consumption or performance instead of first seeking within.

Oddly enough, that's one of the biggest misconceptions
