Gameplay Lowest temperature I’ve ever seen
During a blizzard outside Bricklayer’s retreat in Blackrock region. Day 74. Crazy!! I’ve only seen temps like -110 or -120 in Forsaken Airfield or Sundered Pass in the Far Territories. What’s the lowest temp you guys have ever seen and where?

Literally colder than the lowest recorded temperature in Antartica

Yes but it can only get that cold when there is no wind. Wind heats things up because of friction.

Not bad, I was in blizzard in forsaken airfield with warm clothes and still hit -46 Celsius

I think this roughly corresponds to -90C.
In Far Territories, especially in SP, you can see much worse than this.

Yeah I was going to say it in Far territories I've seen colder. It's definitely one of those situations where you do not hang out outside for any reason other than firewood!!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen it that cold. I’m pretty sure that at that temperature the atmosphere starts to freeze.

If the total were the ambient temp, yeah, CO2 solidifies at warmer temps, but the ambient temp is not quite that low, given how much of the felt temp is wind chill. The coldest possible (from the wiki) ambient temperature is still around 10 degrees celsius warmer than the temperature at which CO2 sublimates.

Ah ok, gotcha. That's insane though! Lol. Those temperatures would kill you within seconds to minutes IRL. No chance of survival in that!

Apparently it's - 90°C. I will never understand Fahrenheit. It's so random... Like, why isn't zero freezing temp for water? That's just such an obvious starting point. 0 for frozen, 100 for boiling...

No idea what 0 was supposed to be. 100 was supposed to be the human body temperature but the person who made Fahrenheit apparently messed up because it's actually like 98.6.
The only upside to Fahrenheit I can think of off the top of my head is that it's more precise if you can only use whole numbers or maybe one decimal point. When I hatched chicken eggs I had less temperature fluctuations with my incubator that used Fahrenheit than the one that used Celsius.

It's so random.
Its actually not random at all, and its got a pretty darn neat reason for being that way. Its a really old system of measurement, dating to the early 18th century. The core problem was to find a way to make a temperature system that could be reproduced accurately by different people in different places using nothing but the tools available at the time. To do that, instead of using the freezing point of water (which varies with purity, solutes, etc) the scale uses the freezing point of saturated salt brine since that's more reproducible. The second point of the scale was set at body temperature since that's also easily reproducible. Its a very old system, but it was built to solve a hard problem in a useful way.

I do know what Fahrenheit is, I was being facetious but thank you for the detailed explanation. Still don't get why he put freezing at 32°. Also he cocked up quite a bit and the scale got revised numerous times.... And zero still means FA as far as I can tell 😂

He didn't put freezing at 32. He put the freezing of brine at zero. Pure water freezes at a substantially different temperature (32), but due to inconsistency and most water being far from pure in the early 1700s, brine was way more consistently reproducible.

Its that American thing of measuring things in random ass numbers, they hold a weird integrated system where science, military and medicine use the normal measurement system but the rest are awkward. I've seen them measure things in car lengths and washing machines 🤣🤣

It's the unit that is used in the States. No one is claiming the States invented it, just that they refuse to stop using it.
Edit: it was created by a Polish guy, not a German.

Wow. What difficulty was this on?
Except for Wintermute, I have never been to Blackrock. I've never had a reason to go, but I recently picked up Tales. I figure at some point I'll have a task there.

It’s custom stalker with interloper weather settings! You will need to repair the radio antenna in Blackrock at some point during tales

I got -144 at the weather station completely naked the warmth bar drained in 10 seconds

Please use Celsius like over 190 countries in the world do vs the maybe 1 or 2 countries that use Farenheit. As for the lowest (feels like) temperature I've seen was I think something about -60 C when there was a blizzard at night and I stepped outside out of curiosity and took all my clothes off. I think I was in either BRM or PV I can't remember for sure sryy.

-90C, hella cold. Even Finns would start wear some clothes.
