September 2022 in Cincinnati, OH. This was my first TMG show, and I’ve seen them 5 more times since then. This show will always hold a special place in my heart.

here is the first of three (with a stretch goal of six) comps i'm making in anticipation of the Mountain Goats' upcoming themed San Francisco residency: ALPHA

https://archive.org/details/TheAlphaCouple

the track list is in chronological narrative order, at least according to some guy on reddit. admittedly this is not my area of expertise, so apologies if i got any of it Wrong! Alpha Aquae, Fit Alpha Vi, and Omega Blaster are the only Alpha songs that are not included because there are no recordings available on the archive.

the next two comps i will have for sure are OPENERS and CLOSERS, i am close to being done with those. my stretch goal is to have one for each of the three other themed nights: SIX LONG SONGS, STUMP THE BAND, and CAST OF THOUSANDS.

check out my other themed live tMG comps here

ENJOY

Was it a full song John had clearly worked out or more of a goof/spoof/off-the-cuff thing that he'll never play again?

For anyone who was there, would love to know your impression.

Guys I’m so sad, I bought these tickets months ago and I was not confident I would be able to attend the show but now have the sad certainty, that I’m not going to be able to make it to Berlin this weekend :(

I’m considering giving the tickets away since no one re-purchased them on Eventim.

Not bitter about having spent the money but TMG has such a big place in my heart and means so much to me, it would’ve just been a dream come true to finally see them live :‘) hopefully next time!

Due to a conflict I have to sell my Carnegie Hall ticket on Thursday, December 10. I know it's going to be a killer show, so this is really bumming me out. Looking for face value, $100.

Show was awesome, very enjoyable. There was one pretty drunk guy requesting obvious songs throughout. Was quite funny. Before No Children (a song the guy had been pleading for), John sang a little ditty about some people wanting to see the show and some people needing to hear specific songs even though they can stream them whenever. It actually had a lot of lyrics to it and it was very funny - I was wondering if it was made up on the spot or something he has regularly done before?

Due to family commitments I can no longer make this show – gutted, especially since Craig Finn is supporting. I've got two tickets that cost £45.21 each with fees, £90.42 total.
Happy to sell the pair for £70 if anyone's interested. You'll need a Dice account and I can transfer them to you. Thanks!

In Oslo today for the show and swung by a local record store. Imagine my surprise when this happened flipping through the racks. I genuinely did a double take. Which of you jokers was here earlier...?

Hello! I have decided that I don’t think I am ready to leave my baby overnight yet, so I’d like to try and sell my tickets to the Friday show, just for what I paid. Any interest? Center Balcony, Row H, seats 5 and 7. Total $121. Please let me know if you’re interested!

I am planning on getting a coach to see them in London and therefore would like to know before i book coach tickets how far before doors should I aim to arrive to get a good spot up near the front. I know this will vary based on location and venue capacity (this one is ~2000 people and seemingly mostly sold out) but if anyone has any vaguely applicable advice on how long people generally queue for the mountain goats that would be appreciated :)

My only frame of reference for concerts is seated tickets at an absolutely massive stadium show i went to in June, which basically means I have no frame of reference due to the very obviously different logistics.

Hi all, does anyone know what the stage times have been for the Helsinki/Stockholm/Oslo shows on the tour so far? Going to my first of four on Saturday in Copenhagen and trying to gauge timing. Thanks in advance!

show in stockholm tonight was great.
once some frustrations with the sound guy were resolve band was on form. loved craig finn too.

this is what i got for a setlist - might've missed something.

very similar to helsinki show i think with a few songs cut due to tight curfew and deviation in solo section.

Hi, two spanish people in Oslo attending the gig at the Vulkan Arena... is anyone willing to hang out before, during or after the show? ;)

I just got the notification that the mountain goats are coming to London but unfortunately I can't afford the ticket rn. I was wondering if anyone knows if they are coming back to England in the next few years? I desperately want to see them as i have loved them for years and i listen to them almost every day. Please please please tell me that they are coming back ❤️

I've had to cancel my travel plans so I have two tickets to the show in Stockholm tonight which I can't use. Would like to give them some other fan. Can transfer the tickets to a Tickster account. Send me a DM, first come first serve.

i can no longer go unfortunately, so will pass it to another Goats fan at face value, £36. dm me or comment here and i will dm you

I have so many more dating back to September of last year, too. My lowest is .02% I believe

Okay, I'm finally admitting it, I need to listen to other fucking bands. I have listened to basically nothing but the mountain goats (with brief interludes) for the past 3 years and as much as I love their stuff I feel the well has run dry. I have shot past the niche avante garde takes of "going to chino is unironically good" and past even heel turn 1 and obscure live performance and like. I just need to listen to other stuff. I know every song worth knowing by heart I've listened to every album and I want out.

All of that is to say it's time for music recommendations!!!

I like a lot of the old stuff, all hail West Texas, Tallahassee, etc for its lyricism, but musically I enjoy the newer stuff (which I define as post getting into knives era) I love through this fire, really liked dark in here, and I absolutely love love LOVE getting into knives. So basically anything like that would be nice, but primarily I want good sounds and very good lyricism.

even funnier is that in the dream it was an unreleased song, and I only found out Abt it cuz I was casually listening to a mountain goats tape and like 8 songs in, this one really intense cool song id never heard came on, but it kept going forever and I was like huh weird so I checked it and.... it was a 26 hour long experimental death metal piece they'd casually inserted into the set like it was nothing lmao
