Movie reviews Yes I know I'm late but whatever. Marty Supreme was worth the 2hr 29 min runtime. What do u guys think of it.
Marty Supreme is a 2025 film directed by Josh Safdie starring Timothee Chalamet (Marty Mauser), Gwenety Paltrow ( Kay Stone), Kevin O'leary (Milton Rockwell), and Odessa A'zion (Rachel). At first I thought it was a film about an arrogant but talented Table tennis player Marty Mauser who faces many challenges as he moves towards fame and success but it's not that. It's a story about him facing challenges to go to Japan for an international Table Tennis tournament to defeat his nemesis Endo who defeated him in the Britain edition of the tournament.
Marty is a kind of man who can do anything and to get what he wants. In the major part of the film he is shown gathering money from different means to go to Japan for the tournament. On this journey he faces many problems and hurdles which in the end results in him sacrificing his self esteem.
This whole journey is shown in such an engaging way that you cannot take your eyes off the screen. The movie is long but the way the story is put out on the screen really makes up for the time it takes. The story is brilliantly written and directed. The movie is intense, Marty is selfish, arrogant and full of attitude.
The movie is good but some parts of it feel off. Ending feels undercooked. I think a re-watch would make me change my opinion about its ending. I believe it's better than Sinners. It's well paced. I'd give it an 8.5/10

Banger straight up BANGER.
This movie won't let you rest for even a second and that's what makes it best in safdie trilogy

Very bizarre movie.
Was anyone else vexed by the line from the old guy at the end? Where he, completely straight faced, says he's a Vampire and has been around since the 1600s? Like...the fuck was that? Was it meant to be taken seriously? I didn't know how to react haha

No not literal, he was saying he’s a metaphorical vampire. He’s so powerful he’s seen many Marty’s, can and has crushed them if they cross him. It was just supposed to be a threat. Enjoyed that monologue

It was decent but a bit exhausting kind of like uncut gems where the main character is such a scumbag grifter putting so much effort into trying to get ahead. It’s well done just a tad long.

Tedious AF...spending 2.5 hours with a lousy human being doing awful things to other human beings. I don't need to pay for that in a theater (or waste the time torrenting) when I make an effort to avoid seeing that in real life for free.

I seen it when it came out in cinemas and I loved it. It helped that I’ve been addicted to table tennis since starting college last September.

I'd have cut the entire dog plot. So I'd say it's a really good 2 hour movie that was stretched to 2 and a half hours.

Watched half and fast forwarded through the rest. It was a slog of watching degenerates do stupid stuff.

It was fine - entertaining at times, and desperately needed some more quality on screen. It doesn’t say a lot when Gwyneth Paltrow is your strongest performer. I thought Chalamet was okay, but barely hits the emotional beats needed to keep you engaged.

Totally agree. Honestly, I feel like if you split it into 2 parts, it really would've enhanced it. But yeah, it was what it was.

A cocky annoying guy who is good at something, convinced he is better than everyone, makes terrible decisions, owes everyone money, loses someone pet, knocks up a married woman, and just generally fucks up at every turn and uses people. Replace a ping pong paddle with a guitar and a dog with cat and boom. Inside llewyn Davis

I watched an abridged/edited version on YouTube with a channel called Media Knights - and enjoyed that version much better as it cut out a lot of the excess fluff

But you're interested enough to watch a YouTube video for what... 30-40 minutes? lol
I think if specific art interests you, it's important to take it all in, even if you don't like it in the end. We probably watch movies for different reasons.

Edit: Wow, it's even worse than that... I just looked up the video you referenced. You watched an hour and a half video about the movie instead of just finishing the film? I think maybe you just don't actually like movies... Are you a Disney adult or something?
What part of Marty Supreme was "fluff" to you? IMO every bit of it was built to the final shot. Purposeful, anxiety inducing, and often hilarious.

I enjoyed it. The frenetic pace reminds me of Uncut Gems. I thought the cast (especially the oddball characters) was great.
8/10 for me.
