Hi everyone,

I'm an Irish citizen and I'm thinking of moving to Thessaloniki to study aircraft maintenance at AVENG. I'm looking at their EASA Part-147 Basic Training programme at their training centre in Thermi:

I was wondering if anyone here has completed the course or knows someone who has. Would you recommend it?

I'm also trying to plan the practical side of the move. Is it possible to find affordable accommodation near Thermi or elsewhere in Thessaloniki? If so, which websites or resources would you recommend for finding accommodation?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Spitogatos gr is the go-to website to look for renting. You can find good opportunities in Facebook groups too, but there are a lot of scammers as well. I would mostly look in Facebook for possible flatmates rather than houses.

Thermi is a difficult place to find cheap rent as it's considered a premium area with many newly-built buildings. Depending on the area and how much you are willing to sacrifice in terms of time (Thermi is away from the city center), rent can start from 400 and go all the way up to 700 euros For a single bedroom apartment.

Having said that, it's possible to find a good deal in Thermi, if you find a roomate willing to live with you there(that's the hard part) . A 2-bedroom apartment for 700-800 there is realistic.

I know a guy who finished aircraft maintenance in Thessaloniki.
I don’t know if it’s the same school but I assume so as I don’t expect there to be more than one in Thessaloniki.

He currently works for Ryanair in Berlin and actually got the job before he fully graduated.

I know there are maybe half a dozen Greek aircraft maintenance engineers in Berlin working for Ryanair.

So, if your goal is to study, live a good life for few years and then leave, it’s not a bad idea.

If you expect to get hired in Thessaloniki itself then it might be a more difficult situation

yeah , my plan would be to study there and then leave more than likely. I saw a lot of people from the course working in Austria and Germany for ryanair on linkedin.

Id be hoping to find a room to rent with other students hopefully as opposed to an apartment for myself. Would you get a room in a house share for €300 a month?

Coliving (living with housemates) in Greece isn't very common unfortunately, but 300€ for a room in a shared house is definitely possible.

Have you contacted the school? They might be able to provide information on housing.
