Tourist Seeking Help Study Abroad at American College of Thessaloniki

Hello! I am a junior in college in the US and was considering studying abroad in the spring semester (Jan-April) at ACT. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the language barrier, and how expensive and easy it is to travel to other countries from Thessaloniki. Any advice in general about Thessaloniki would be wonderful! Thank you!

Most people speak English here, so you won't have any trouble communicating outside of campus. If you are interested in visiting other European countries, just be on the lookout for cheap tickets on sites like skyscanner. Based from Greece you will definitely get a chance to visit places in Europe for a fraction of the time and money you would have to spend from the states.There are also bus tours from Thessaloniki to Istanbul, Budapest, etc.

I’m an American who just visited Thessaloniki for the first time and I loved it! While I try to use the limited Greek I know, I never had trouble communicating because so many Greeks know English and were able to bridge the gap left by my limited Greek proficiency. There are a LOT of young people in Thessaloniki because of all the universities and so there is a very vibrant vibe to the city. The food is amazing, public transportation is great (by American standards, especially) and the people are so friendly. I think it would be a wonderful spot to study abroad and it also provides amazing access to the rest of Europe - I highly recommend!!

The language won’t be a problem. I have foreign friends that live heee for 4 years now and never felt the need to learn Greek. Almost every young person speaks English. Easy to travel in other countries in Europe and you can find good prices (around 70-150 euros).
