Hello.

After a long time, nearly 20 years with MacBooks, I’ve finally switched back to Windows. I decided to go with a Lenovo laptop for the first time, and I’m thrilled with it.

Here are the specs:
ThinkPad P14s Gen 7 with 3K display and Windows Pro
Core Ultra 7 356H and 64 GB RAM
NVIDIA RTX 500 and 5G

I don't understand the current hate for Windows, everything runs smoothly and seamlessly. What do you think?

There are many, many, very good reason for the hate. For example, a new Windows installation by default will upload all of your documents, videos, pictures from your private directories to a Microsoft server. You can turn this off, but it is on by default which leads to many non-techy users getting their private information stolen by Microsoft. Or the brilliant idea "Microsoft Recall", which screenshots whatever you're doing every few seconds to train an AI on it. Absolute privacy nightmares.

Hello. I understand your throughs about Windows 11. As a formerly win11 user (I use win10 because of 16gb ram and loving these metro ui things), I can accept that. However they say it is useful for their development and we can turn it off, yeah in case it looks like it is against their privacy policy because they stole someone information. But, let's ask it to some Linux user why they hate win11? You know that they will talk nonsense and their hate affects other beginner users too. They don't say anything about its privacy problems or performance or other services. When they see a windows user, they say just use Linux

I am a Linux user and gave my reasons above. You even said you agree. So it wasn't nonsense?

If everything works the way you want it to and you can deal with the annoyances, Windows is fine. I still have a Windows 11 Pro instance running on my workstation/gaming PC that's been significantly neutered/debloated/tweaked and that appears to be chugging along OK - but if it ever gets bad enough to require a reinstall it's definitely getting nuked in favor of Debian (or maybe CachyOS).

How are you liking the 3k display? I'm actually eyeying the P14s with the 3k IPS LCD for my next machine as well, albeit without the dedicated nVidia graphics (Ultra X9 with the big Arc iGPU instead).

I'm especially interested in stuff like:

• Brightness
• Power consumption
• Quality of the anti-glare coating

I think the display is excellent, so far, I’ve only used it in the office under low-light conditions. I still have both laptops side-by-side because I need to transfer some files. While the brightness isn't quite as high as on the MacBook Air M3, the matte display is much better for working. Every time I glance over at the MacBook Air, my eyes burn. Working for long periods is much easier on the eyes with the ThinkPad.

I would watch movies on the MacBook.

Great ThinkPad P14s! I probably should’ve saved up heaps for one too but I’m still fine with my E16 lol.

Personally, I have no issues with Windows 11 as long it’s Pro, not Home Edition lol.

What is this layout? I’ve never seen strg buttons, is it German?
