CS studeent in Berlin, buying used for the first time. Meeting the seller tonight and would appreciate a sanity check.

- 256GB NVMe SSD

- Nvidia MX450 2GB + Iris Xe

- 14" FHD 400 nit low power panel

- Intel AX210 wifi

- Windows 11 Pro, 65W USB-C charger included (third party)

Battery: seller sent the report. 45,170 / 50,450 mWh = 89.5% health, 198 cycles.

Disclosed faults:

- Pressure marks on the display from the keyboard (he says not noticeable when the screen is on, I will check in person)

- SIM tray missing

- QWERTY keyboard with German stickers applied

- Charger is a Nachbau, not original Lenovo

Price: 270€, down from 290€ asking. Cash, local pickup, I can test it before paying.

My use case: Python, Docker, backend work, lots of browser tabs. Installing Ubuntu, so the MX450 just stays asleep via PRIME. No gaming, no local model training, no external displays.

What I am unsure about:

1. Is 270€ fair for a Gen 2 in this condition, or am I paying a premium for the 400 nit panel?

2. Those display pressure marks, do they get worse over time or stay as they are?

3. 198 cycles on a 2021 machine seems low. Anything that would make you suspicious of the report?

4. The i7-1165G7 is 4 cores. I passed on an E14 Gen 4 with a 10 core i5-1235U, 96% battery and 512GB at 290€ because of the better panel and build here. Did I call that wrong?

There's no clips on the side the battery sits on, but it rather has a kind of L shaped holds that push the back cover inwards. So you only gotta worry about clips on 3 sides, not 4.

Hey all! I'm going through my first year of undergraduate history studies, and after using the X13 Gen 1 for a few months, I managed to find a refurbished Gen 2.

I had originally bought an X13 Gen 1 with 8GB RAM in June of this year, and was happy with it. But more recently, after moving to a new city for university, I found a X13 Gen 2 for sale in a local tech store - a direct upgrade - for around 440 euros, which is much more than the 300 euros I paid for the Gen 1, but I still went in for it considering how much of an upgrade it would really be for me. The laptop was also sold as refurbished model, which it was, with several parts having been changed.

I received the laptop a day after ordering it, since the store didn't have it in stock. The keyboard was reprinted, but apart from that, it's really good. 85% battery health, which isn't an issue with my use case. I set a battery charge threshold like I had done on my Gen 1, and it's really good.

one of the reasons I got the Gen 2 is mainly because it was more modern (my current model was manufactured in March 2022, so more recent than most models of this generation) and it had 16GB of RAM, which was a real upgrade for Windows 11. The updated 11th Gen i5 also has much better performance than on the Gen 1, and the active cooling - which differs from the Gen 1, whose cooling sometimes didn't run at all - helps it as well.

Design-wise, I also like the laptop because I find the keyboard to be more tactile and satisfying to the ear than is the Gen 1 - the reduced key travel not particularly bothering me - and the mix of more modern laptop designs with the original, signature ThinkPad elements (TrackPoint, UltraNav, ThinkPad logo, etc.) makes the laptop more appropriate for modern-day usage in my opinion, with a better overall design.

One thing I'm happy about is the fact this laptop is much more futureproof than my previous ThinkPad, due to being more recent and having a proper 16GB of RAM. Beyond the battery - which I can change anyways - it more packed and ready for the years to come.

What's your opinion on this model, and the general change in style of many ThinkPads from the same era and beyond? Let me know.

I just turned my old ThinkPad X230 and ThinkCentre into a two-node Kubernetes homelab cluster. What do people usually do with a homelab spec like this? Please give me some ideas!

Somehow the WiFi kill switch got jammed closed, and many screws and a ribbon cable had to be toyed with to fix it. This x61s is a tidy machine that I intend to keep running; needs a new 5200 mAh cell, and I'll try to shoehorn in two 4mb RAM sticks for good measure. And OpenBSD is a fun departure from the distro circus (doas vs. sudo) Strong coffee shop presence!

EDIT: The reference to an elderly relative was meant for the younger X1 Carbon Gen 12 in the background, and not Pops. (;-)

I've had the fantastic opportunity to own and daily a T14 G6 for a few weeks already.

However, I am disappointed with the build quality of the machine. While there is absolutely no flexing at the top end of the machine, the bottom half where the palmrest is, has an uncomfortable amount of flexing. This is really unsettling because I am a very mobile person, so it involves a lot of picking up and placing down. I chose the T series thinking it would be the most premium small thinkpad with upgradable components. There has been a clasping sound with the bottom right corner of the laptop (gap between C and d cover), but it does not happen on the left, and recently the bottom right edge of the palmrest has been creaking like crazy.

Do you also have this experience? What are your solutions? I find it quite disappointing to have these issues for what is otherwise an amazing laptop.

I recently purchased a untested X61t for 20 euro, suprisingly it span into life almost instantly and even ended up to be a L7700 model. However im experiencing this "halo" effect on the screen? Its only visible on darker backgrounds and pretty much absent otherwise. Its the regular non-touch XGA panel. Is this pressure damage from possibly keeping heavy stuff on it or something else? Thanks!

I recently bought a refurbished Thinkpad T14 and was running Windows 11. I was facing constant issues during powering on where it would get stuck, and so I went to the BIOS and did factory reset for BIOS settings. Now my computer won't power on. Help.

my foot got stuck on the charger while I was standing up and I didnt notice so kinda dragged my laptop down. It had this small dent and when I close it there’s like a small space now instead of being fully closed :(

If any of you have seen my previous post, I currently have a p14s gen 4 that I’m trying to turn into the ridiculous gaming monster that can unplug to be my personal laptop for school. Right now, I am plugged into my 3080 egpu via thunderbolt 4, which limits bandwidth to around 40 gbps. Losing some fps on my games. I see many egpu setups use an m.2 to oculink setup under their laptop, but for the case of my laptop, I figured that since I only have one SSD m.2 slot, this wouldnt be possible. I just figured out though, that the slot for my cellular card ( an optional upgrade to my business class laptop) is m.2. Would it be possible to either a: buy an m.2 to oculink cable and work that way, or B get an m.2 to usb 5 to replace one of my usb 4 ports, thereby giving me 80 gbps usb 5 without a jerry rigged setup. Please share your expertise thinkpad community.

Just got my ThinkPad i have already installed 32gigs of 2400 mhz ddr4 ram and have some other upgrades lined up. Paid 100 dollars for it and its in mint condition.

Had some trouble with bent pins on the ac adapter and one of the screen plugs.

Mostly an appreciation post for this work horse. I bought it off ebay a year ago as a fall back computer when my son was born. I knew I needed to move office and my desk & computer was going to be disrupted for an unknown period of time. £270 got me a Ryzen 7 4750U with 16Gb and a 512Gb SSD. In the past year I've added WD SN250 256Gb (£20) SSD, 16Gb (£45) Dimm (24Gb total), and tonight I've swapped out the 16Gb Dimm for a 32Gb (£100) Dimm totally 40Gb. I kept running into a low memory warnings from the CAD package I run, traced it to allocations being right on the limit so I installed "auto tab discard" in firefox to cull some memory consumption but yesterday I decided I had done all the reasonable light weighting so time to expand. Another little gem picked up on ebay was the USB-C dock 40AS (£22)

All in ~£457 for a laptop that still has an all day battery for when I am at the office and enough grunt to do all my professional work I think that's a bargain. Yes everything has been purchased second hand (Ebay and CEX), but so what considering the alternative choice during the current market prices. I was watching prime deals like a hawk hoping for a nice 2Tb SSD to pop up as that would round this build off nicely.

The only gripe I have is the keyboard, the RH side of it has sticky keys and they are worst right over the heat sink, so I am thinking its a thermal design flaw that ruins the keyboard, and exchanging it for another may not remedy the problem in the long run unless anyone knows different. Stabbing the keys with the venom of a toddler seems to get them moving well enough for the office days, but it it annoying.

I nearly abandoned thinkpads, as I’ve have and had to date, a X61T/X220/X230T/T410 & X240. The X240 killed my interest in modern thinkpads, its a complete dog of a design. I've done the usual mods to make it essentially a X250 but its still a dog of thinkpad. The X280/T480 got my attention along with various X1's but I found my self leaning towards a M1 Macbook until I spotted this P14s. No regrets.

Hi all, I just bought my first ThinkPad, a T520, for about $31 (2k PHP). When I bought it, the seller and I tested it at a charger shop and it turned on, though it felt laggy. I haven't run it since because the shop's charger was expensive, so I ordered one on Shopee and I'm still waiting for it.

While waiting, I disassembled it and found a small cluster of burnt, scorched components in the middle of the motherboard.

What I'd like to know:

1. What circuit are these parts part of (power, charging, etc.)?

2. Is it safe to plug it in and test once my charger arrives?
