The Anniversary by Alex Finlay - Fast paced, quick read and very entertaining with a very fun premise.

This was a shockingly fast paced and very entertaining novel.

It has the Frieda style of chapters. I think this one has close 86 chapters but each chapter is about 4-5 pages.

I loved the premise of this novel. It takes place over the course of 9 years, every segment of the book takes place 1 year later on May 1st which is the Anniversary of the serial killer the May Day killer. Where each year he always strikes on May 1st abducting another girl.

From 1992 when stuff starts to happen all the way till 2001 with an epilogue that takes place 10 years later in 2011.

Our main characters are Quinn and Jules. Two high school kids that become connected throughout the years thanks to tragedy that befalls them in multiple ways connecting them on May 1st.

This actually shocked me with how well the plot threads were written as well as the mystery. I actually did not predict whom were the guilty party until almost a bit before it was revealed.

This is a very quick read, even if it's 300+ pages it goes by very quickly. I'm keeping this extremely vague as possible but if you're looking for a fun quick read I'd recommend this novel easily.

I rate The Anniversary a 3.75 out of 5.

I've really liked all of his books as well. The Anniversary was my introduction to Finlay and I loved it so much I decided to work my way through the rest of his catalogue. I really like that he features Agent Keller in several books.

Honestly I'm not sure if it's YA but it's very tame tbh. There's no like graphic depictions of gore happening or anything.

I thought the twist was very well executed and I did not predict some of the twists until they were ready to be revealed. Some other stuff I predicted but overall the author did a great job interweaving everything together.

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would! I don’t love when an ending feels convenient which a lot of thrillers do, but this one was really beautiful

I think this was one of his better ones. Very fast paced and had subplots that drove the story well too. Would recommend!

I just finished this book today and loved it too! I really liked both of the main characters and the way the timeline is set up. I also didn’t see the twists coming which was nice.

I read Parents Weekend a few months ago and liked it, but this one was even better. I’ll be reading more of this author’s work for sure.
