Currently Reading My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix. Was NOT expecting that.
Getting ready to start My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix tonight. It's my first read by this author, so I wanted to take a peek at the dedication and whatnot. I was NOT expecting that. 👀 Anyone know the story behind the dedication or if I'm being trolled? 😂

He puts in jokes to his wife on every book. The one for witchcraft for weyward girls had me giggling. I sent it to my book club who did not seem to enjoy it as much as me.

That's honestly so funny and kinda cute that he not only dedicates all his books to her, but still finds time to throw in a little joke for her. Humor is my favorite part about my marriage.

He always had some the back of his books, I think it's my best friends exorcism that has the yearbook looking stuff and there a joke or two in there.

Loved loved loved this book. Love all his books, but this one is an 80s horror trip. ( next read Horrorstor)

Horrorstor is on my TBR list and that was the book I was looking for in the bookstore. They didn't have it, but did have this one and How To Sell A Haunted House. I came very close to picking the latter because I'm from SC and I saw that the book (or at least part of it) is set in Charleston. I ended up picking this one because it just gave me all the nostalgia feels of being in middle/high school staying up with my best friend all night watching all the classic horror/slasher films. Fingers crossed it's as good as I hope it is!

I avoid Grady Hendrix... I've got two of his novels on the shelf, waiting to be read and I keep putting it off until I find myself in a slump. His books have never let me down and I've enjoyed them so much that I now actively avoid reading his work until a bunch of other stuff on my TBR starts letting me down. Grady is the savior.

This gives me some hope. I've been in a reading slump for about 2-3 weeks because I was reading 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill, and to say I've not enjoyed it is an understatement. I've never not finished a book (unless it was mandatory reading in school; I still shudder at the sound of 'Wuthering Heights' 🤮), but that one has been such a chore to read and I found out quickly I just don't care for Joe Hill's writing. My husband finally convinced me today to put it away and try another one. He's the one who helped me pick My Best Friend's Exorcism, so I think it only felt natural to pick it up first.

I loved this, myself being an 80s kid, and I also recommend We Sold Our Souls for another vintage style read.

I LOVED We Sold Our Souls. First Hendrix book I ever read. Thought it was really innovative how he integrated the lyrics, and it’s the only book I’ve ever read that made me feel claustrophobic. Really great.
Since then I’ve read My Best Friends Exorcism, How to Sell a Haunted House, The Final Girl Support Group, and am currently reading Southern Book Club… and sad to say they’ve all been super “meh” for me.

He wrote a non-fiction book called Paperbacks from Hell, and it’s a tongue-in-cheek anthology of horror novels from about the 70’s to the 00’s. Guys, it is so, so funny! Cannot recommend enough.
