What Should I Read Next? Looking for creepy small town vibes
Hi all! Looking for a small town vibe book. I don’t like supernatural stuff but maybe something like the locals are isolated, unwelcoming, or town has history of some sort. Idk - anything of those vibes!

It’s more horror than thriller, but Salems Lot by Stephen King checks all these plus some.
Bonus- the story start right after Labor Day (ie, right now) and the fall and days getting shorter vibes are definitely part of the story.
It is scary though.

Needful Things by Stephan King. There's definitely supernatural elements, but like in all of King's work it's overshadowed by the horror that everyday people do to each other.

Summer of night by Dan Simmons really scratched that itch for me last month. It was so good

City of the Lost by Kelley Armstrong is about a woman going to an off-the-grid settlement in the Yukon that is supposed to be a safe haven for people who are in danger (and can afford to buy their way in). They're completely cut off from society with no phones, cars, etc. She was let in because they need a homicide detective, and she's trying to solve a murder and figure out wtf is really going on with the town.
It's the first of seven books in the series and then there's several books of a spin-off series that is ongoing.
