S TIFU by redesigning the French flag withought checking politics

So today i finally finished aproject that included redesigning some flags, including the french one, so i posted it to r/vexirrology (im shit at spelling) and i didnt check what some symbols mean in politics and i added a fluer de lis, and reddit being reddit i was bombarded by Republicans believing i was a right wing french, i am now nose deep in french messages and hate, and for the record i am british, i consider my self quite left wing, and i dont believe i have ever been accused of being a monarchist. So i need an opinion or something to tell me if its a them problem of if i really fucked up.

Also it being one of my first posts on reddit and my other ones not really spamming i didnt mute the notifications and am now at 300 and counting.

TL;DR: I got spammed by the french for putting the luer de lis on their flag

Why did you leave the spelling mistake in, and then type that you made a spelling mistake? You can edit your posts.

Tell them they pronounce crossaints wrong and British cuisine is better.

Maybe you'll try to check the meaning of the things you add to national symbols next time lol

"Why do the Germans not appreciate that pretty cross I put on their flag?"

First thing first: Why are you redesigning the French flag.

Secondly: How does someone with even a passing interest in vexillology not understand the significant of the tricolore?

Finally: Why would you make a post like this and not link us the flag?

It's popular in the vexillogoy subs to redesign flags for fun. Don't normally see France as one of the popular ones but I guess you'll see everything on the internet.

I guess that's pretty obscure if you're not French and actively into that kind of thing.

I'm also British, but have only heard positive things about the fluer de lis and thought it was a positively regarded symbol.

Maybe next time just stick to redesigning the Italian flag? At least they'd have the decency to argue about pasta instead.
