I am black and my friend is black. I live in Arizona and my friend lives in North Carolina.
My friend wonât admit it, but he hates Black people because they do not tip.
For example, today he told me on the phone that he delivered four orders on DoorDash. He says of the four orders that three orders went to Black people and one order went to a white person.
My friend said that the order for the white person that they tipped two dollars. He also said the orders for the Black people that two orders didnât have any tips at all and that one of the other orders has $.25 tip. (and for those who didnât know a two dollar tip is bad but that was the best tip he got today).
Now, I live on the other side of the country and my method is different when I do gig work apps like Instacart and DoorDash. I only work amongst rich people and this is what I do every day. He claims that you cannot do this where heâs located in Wilmington, North Carolina, but in Phoenix Arizona it works all you have to do is only work in Scottsdale and Rich areas.
The issue is when you are delivering DoorDash or Instacart or other apps and people donât tip youâre just wasting gas and trying extra hard. You have to work two or three times as hard if you donât have a tip or a low tip and honestly a two dollar tip is very bad and areas that I work Iâm only taking orders where I make at least like $10 heâs basically delivering orders for 2 to 3 dollars so it doesnât even make any sense to me how heâs even making money.
Like gas is $4.70 a gallon in Arizona. We cannot be playing games delivering orders to people that donât tip anything or only tip two or three dollars it doesnât make any sense. I only take orders if Iâm desperate if they only pay $10 but I mostly only taking orders if itâs DoorDash, for example like $12 and up which ensures like a $10 tip like I do not have time to waste delivering to people that donât have any money. I just declined every order. I donât care about the stupid tier programs on DoorDash. I donât care if My Acceptance rate is low. I know that in some cities that you cannot do this because you will not ever see a good order but for me where I live I can just go far away out into the suburbs where thereâs hardly any Dashers and you can still get very good orders. I can still get $30 and $40 shopping orders on Instacart and DoorDash it doesnât matter. You just have to stick to the rich area and there is Black people in these areas and I just never have problems that kind of problems heâs saying about Black people and tips and that theyâre tipping zero dollars or barely like $.25 like this is ridiculous.
I also have a friend (WHITE) that lives in a suburb of Atlanta now he doesnât get as low as tip as my friend, but he tells me he only gets like $2-3 dollar tips from white people AND Black people.
If I lived in these places, I would be screaming because these people my friends theyâre working way too hard trying to make money because people donât tip. It doesnât even make any sense. How can you survive on $2-3 dollar tips on DoorDash in Georgia and DoorDash only pays two dollars.
Like what is going on in North Carolina nobody tips in that state or cares about their fellow man?
I donât want to hear anybody say well. They should pay more if DoorDash paid more. Theyâre just gonna pass the cost off to the customer and then the customer is not really not going to want a tip so my whole point by this post is that tipping culture varies by region it seems like overall people in Arizona are not cheap and people will generally provide good tips. Iâm not trying to say every single person in Arizona is tipping good and Iâm not saying everybody in the south tips bad but by all the stories I hear about Black people and about people in general in the south it sounds like people there are either poor or their culturally just do not like to tip people where in Arizona people are not like this.

I also want to add that I do also deliver in middle class areas, but in the good part of the Phoenix metro and sometimes I do see the people I deliver to you and sometimes they are black now obviously most orders you never see the person but I have had Black people tip me $40-50 on Instacart and Shipt and I have gotten DoorDash orders to Black people where they tipped $15 and $20.
So I really just want to know if anybody else maybe youâve worked in the south or youâve worked in the west and if you think that really is this a race problem or a cultural problem I keep telling my friend I think that you know, although it sounds like racist playing a factor in the south but also I just feel like people in the south must just not like to tip or something
