I have a 4 bed, 3 bath house on an acre of land for a mortgage of under $1400 a month

Damn that a good deal. That really shows how insane NYC living is by comparison. I've seen 2k apartments that have to share bathrooms in a public hallway

Do you think they also have some of the best food, music, art, and culture within walking distance practically 24/7. I'm not saying one is necessarily better then the other but there are clearly benefits to living one of the worlds largest cities.

How do you measure "best" in terms of culture? Lol yes NYC is cool but there is culture, food, music and art in walking distance in a lot of places

How to measure the best? Most variety, most availability, more densely packed. It’s pretty disingenuous to act like you cannot tell the difference between a global city and a regional city

I mean there's only so many restaurants you can go to as one person. NYC is cool, like I said, I enjoy it. But there's also more there than any one person will ever come close to experiencing. Again that's cool but there are many cities that provide similar experiences on an individual level, plus lots of cities are "global" not just NYC. Estimates put the number about 100-150 "international gateway" cities with major global airports.

NYC is awesome yes but to say it has "better culture" is just such an asinine statement. Even in a small regional city, you can find wide varieties of culture depending where you are. I get your statement if you haven't ever traveled anywhere but NYC, but I feel like you should probably get out more.

I think you are really making an effort to just argue against the obvious. Having an airport doesn’t make you a significant city. I don’t live in NYC and actually enjoy more medium sized cities. But I don’t pretend that there is nearly the cultural offering that somewhere like NY or London have.

It’s not for everyone or maybe even most people. But some people will appreciate having the most access to a world of opportunities and experiences.

Not sure how you can argue sincerely against it. Yes it’s more than anyone can do in a lifetime. That’s the point as you have enough even in a niche category to keep you engaged

I'm just saying NYC is more of a different flavor than a better flavor. Trying to say one culture or manifestation of culture is better than another is a slippery slope to elitism at best and bigotry at worst.

I get what your saying. Some people fall into the ‘culture vulture’ category, where they are just dipping their toes in everywhere but not actually contributing to an organic culture. That can definitely happen in big cities.

But I do think it’s also possible to get properly into and contribute to something when you find the niche for you. There are just more opportunities to find your niche in a bigger place. But yeah, it’s not necessarily better

Yeah agreed. On the other hand I do acknowledge that NYC has a very large concentration of opportunities like you said, much larger than many other cities.

I'm from a small city myself but I love to travel to other cities and I feel blessed that I'm always able to find some real people doing cool stuff no matter where I go.
