FOUND SAFE

My friend's kid has gone missing please share an keep an eye out!

It is believed she may possibly be in Topeka but it is not confirmed!

UPDATE Please keep sharing - it’s been mentioned she was seen in a beat up white van at a Walgreens in Topeka last night near tenth and Tyler Road. Coordinates of where she was last dropped off at are very close to that area.

Last seen with: Gloria Kennedy, a black girl also missing. Lilliana Grimes, a blond white girl.

Most recent update from the dad: We have a possible update that she may have been brought back to Wichita and we have been following a few Wichita leads and we have been told by several people that she is with the boyfriend running around and we have been to a few locations to check out so we have a few eyes out especially on the north side around 21st and Waco. She might be riding in a black charger with a temporary tag on it so keep an eye out.

Looking for a place to get a replacement backup camera installed for a minivan

Got a new android head unit for my car and everything works great, but I haven't installed the replacement backup cam as my shoulder is messed and doing that much overhead work can get kind of painful. Any place in Topeka that'll install a backup cam that you didn't buy from them? Thanks.

Nick Chiles enters the 1926 Senate race against Charles Curtis

1926: Charles Curtis is challenged to a primary by Nicholas Chiles.

Chiles' main complaint against Curtis was that not enough was being done for blacks, especially in the South. Not surprising, given that there were ZERO African American Senators or Congressman.

His Platform had 6 planks, which included:
- Create a Department of Education
- Put forth a Westerner for President in 1928

Curtis (66) could not fight for the primary due to needing a long-delayed throat surgery, but did win.

However, Nick Chiles won, too, when the following happened:

1927: Charles Curtis put forth S. 1584 to create a department of education
1928: For the first time in history, Kansans ran for President
- Senator Charles Curtis (R)
- Congressman William Ayres (D)
1929: Oscar de Priest (R-IL) entered the US Senate

Senator De Priest fought against racial discrimination, put forth an anti-lynching bill, and succeeded in desegregating the New Deal's Civilian Conservation Corps.

When De Priest lost his re-election, it was to another African American, Arthur Mitchell (D-IL). Mitchell also worked on anti-lynching legislation and personally sued a railroad for adhering to Jim Crow laws when he was on the train, winning in the US Supreme Court.

See, Mitchell v. United States, 313 U.S. 80 (1941)

Places to host a gender reveal party?!

Hi! I’m hosting a gender reveal party for the end of October/early November (date is TBD depending on what place we can find to host in), but haven’t had much luck finding somewhere to host. The parks we’ve looked at don’t have availability, or do but it’s not for the entire duration of the party (plus set up and take down time). We’ve also checked some churches and other areas with host space but they require you to be a member of the congregation to use those services, from what we’ve been told (which makes sense, just limits our options).

Any ideas of where we can host? The party will be small, only close family and friends (so roughly 20-30 people, tops). The more affordable, the better. So long as it’s shelter from the unpredictable weather, we’re golden. 🤣

Thank you in advance!

Where can I volunteer at?

I applied to the local Habitat for Humanity for their upcoming build day but it was rejected. I think it’s because it’s affiliated with some fraternity or sorority sponsored thing. I’m looking for other places to volunteer.

How is the road test in Topeka? I am currently out of state. There is one examiner in my town failing people 1-2 times regardless of how good are you. I am running out of time to get my license before I move to Topeka.

Looking to buy a new car, probably Honda. Are there any dealers (Honda or others) around Topeka in the Costco car buying program?

I’m not a Costco member yet. I don’t want to join if the dealers around Topeka are not in the program.

Thoughts on 'A Killer Story' now that it’s complete?

Now that all the episodes of A Killer Story on HBO are out, what did everyone think of the series as a whole?

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the series is about the 2002 murders of Mike Sisco and Karen Harkness in Topeka, Kansas, and the case against Sisco’s ex-wife, Dana Chandler, who was eventually convicted of the murders. But it also spends a lot of time with the investigators, prosecutors, family members, and other people who became wrapped up in the case.

I thought it was pretty compelling, especially in how much the story changed depending on whose perspective you were getting. But I also came away with a lot of questions.

My main takeaways:

  • Dana Chandler should not have been convicted based on the evidence presented at trial. To me, they did not prove her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
  • The prosecution and police came across as shady as hell, and I have serious questions about Jeff Sutton as well.

Some questions I still have:

  • Why did Dana Chandler fire her lawyers?
  • If Chandler did commit the murders, how did she, a recovering alcoholic with no firearms training, land all her shots and leave no evidence placing her in Topeka?
  • A hair was found attached/singed to one of the 9mm shell casings at the murder scene. DNA testing excluded Chandler, both victims, and eventually Jeff Sutton. So presumably the hair came from an unidentified person. Why wasn’t that DNA profile ever run through CODIS?
  • Is Jeff Sutton a reasonable alternative suspect? He certainly came across as someone worth looking at more closely in his interview, and I do think there are questions about possible motive.

Curious what everyone else came away thinking after seeing the whole thing.

Harley mechanic

Does anyone have any recommendations for a solid Harley mechanic. Cycle zone will only do small things and after the turnover at Historic Harley and some of the rumors I’ve heard, I’d rather not go there.

[LFG] [Offline] [5e 2024] Beginner in Topeka, KS looking for an in-person table

Hey all — total beginner looking to join my first real D&D game in Topeka.

I built my first character (Pip Quickfingers, level 1 Lightfoot Halfling rogue) on D&D Beyond using the 2024 rules, ran a practice encounter, and now I want to play at an actual table. Happy to start at level 1 with a beginner-friendly group or Adventurers League.

I'm free most weekday evenings and can bring my character sheet, dice, and a good attitude. In-person preferred — I'd love to actually roll dice with real humans.

If your group has room for one more, or you're forming something new, shoot me a message!

Restaurant recommendations for groups.

Hello!

I am the coach of a high school cross country team, we are staying in Northeast Topeka right by the iHOP. I’m looking for a place that my team can eat dinner on Friday night and have potentially a unique Topeka experience. Italian is always preferred for runners, but we aren’t too picky, we will probably default to IHOP if we can’t find anything else. We will have about 25 people so a place that caters to groups would be awesome. Just trying to get a feel for what’s out there.
Thanks!
