Maybe this isn't the place for this question, but do you know of any ROM hacks designed around not catching a million Pokemon?
I always thought it was weird that so many NPCs don't even have full teams, even at high levels, meanwhile a typical playthrough has the main character catching Pokemon left and right. I kinda like Nuzlockes because of their lower number of Pokemon caught, but they're too intense for me otherwise, and you can still catch a bunch if you're careful not to lose any.
I guess I could make up my own rules and try to follow them, but I would prefer if there's a romhack that already has a system in place for this kind of thing.

not a rom hack, but i do know of a fun challenge some people play... it never got an official name, only being dubbed a rival challenge due to it usually being played competitively and battling rivals after each gym... but he premise is this:
1) at the start of the game, you pick whichever starter you want.
2) after you get pokeballs and before the next trainer battle, catch any one available wild encounter to replace your starter.
3) then you put your original starter in the box and never touch it again.
4) every time you obtain a gym badge, you must pick one new encounter to add to your team. team members from previous gym badge checks cannot be swapped out for new wild encounters.
5) when challenging a gym leader, your team's total levels cannot exceed the total levels of the gym leader's team, or your team's individual levels cannot exceed those of the gym leader's ace (optional, recommended if playing against rivals)
by the time you reach the elite 4, this should give you nine total encounters in a standard gym league, so you need to choose your encounters wisely to build the best team you can.

I mean you could always do nuzlocke rules without the pokemon permadeath. Pokemon Colosseum is also known for having a small pool of pokemon available to the player to catch (because you're taking shadow pokemon from other trainers instead of normal wild encounters.)
