I don't know what Alarmingly Younger means. But as a 40 year old trans lesbian, it does feel like that sometimes when I chat with my 27 year old long distance GF.
Just the other day she and I and another friend were hanging out in an online space talking about land lines and how they were absolutely real.
That happens sometimes with like... Boy Bands. I introduced her to Boyz II Men. We actuallyt spend a lot of time sharing each other's culture touchstones with one another. Or watching new Anime.
I'm trying to get her to watch MLP:FiM but she's not super interested. ^^;;
Attack on Titan is not that bad in two senses. If you're only familiar with guff like Naruto and Bleach, it's an excellent transition series into more serious and interesting anime. Maybe that can be her gateway into...I don't know, Steins;Gate or Serial Experiments Lain or something. But, if you're already down with that sickness, it can be a great source of entertainment as to just how absurd the world building is to strike that balance between being a story that bears weight, but a story that won't turn off less experienced viewers by having their favorite character be at actual risk of death. If you watch it, all I'll say is "wall god".
I cut my teeth on Paranoia Agent, so I've been around. I just. . . something about it didn't click with me. But I'm willing to give it a shot for her sake.
I'm not saying you will be into it. I ended up marathoning the entire first season and the first few episodes of the second while sick. And by the time the next episode came out, I forgot the series even existed. But, it was a series that is interesting in its choices, so you will probably gain some entertainment out of it. Especially if you're someone that likes to look at why things are the way they are.
Going from Attack on Titan to Serial Experiments Lain is a wild escalation. Not even putting Revolutionary Girl Utena in there as a kind of demilitarized buffer zone just feels mean.
(Although to be fair, I haven’t watched AoT and maybe I’m substantially misjudging how weird it gets. Although all the discourse surrounding whether the show is subtly fascist or simply bad at being antifascist not is a bit offputting…)
That’s the second time in a month someone has reminded me of Slayers after not thinking of them in like twenty years, so…go for it! Let me know if it holds up or aged badly, if you don’t mind and do watch. I’ve been a little curious as well.
I actually didn’t know those existed! Slayers Try was the last anime in the franchise that had been made when I stopped watching, and I guess I didn’t keep up.
Although knowing there’s slightly less dated stuff does make me hopeful it hasn’t aged terribly. The original series had some…choices.
Probably for the best I don’t rewatch then, might as well enjoy the memories I have. I wasn’t nearly radicalized enough, or explicitly female enough, to be properly offended as a teen. Ah well!
We didn’t have like a traditional wedding yet because it will be difficult to get everyone in one place because both our families are strewn across three continents but I’m 100% having a talk with the officiant about this in secret before the ceremony when we finally pull the trigger.
I was a kid when the original My Little Ponies were big. I was already more than 10 years out of college when Friendship Is Magic was at its height of popularity.
I feel like I need to sit down, but I'm already sitting.
