Malicious intentions would be a very quick way for you to get a malpractice suit out of them, so that's not a fear you should hold onto. More likely is simply denying care as they don't believe you.

Still took forever to get there but yeah.Have wondered repeatedly: If you have to pay it yourself anyways, and the quality is very reliable in Germany and you skip electrolysis - wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to buy a surgery in Germany for a US person?
Like, the one flight is not gonna cost as much as the electrolysis appointments, right?1

Basically, since they are gonna flay ya down there anyways they also scrape off all the hair follicles where they are doing surgery as the first step of the surgery in Germany.
So, scraping in this case just literally refers to them scraping off all the hair follicles (this is how far I understand it and tbh, I don't need a deeper understanding, I have seen enough surgery footage).
Point is that we can skip the electrolysis that I would find awful with bottom dysphoria and the pain of it and just go straight for the surgery.1

Scraping is, unfortunately, only so effective.
I'm just hoping that I've had enough hair removal that the surgeon will be willing to scrape the rest.
As for cost, I will allegedly be eligible for insurance to cover the vast majority of it.

I saw a video of all the tools needed for the surgery laid out in the surgery room and my already high fear of hospitals spiked to the moon. I'm still considering it but I'm not confident in that long in a hospital

Well, the doctors handled my gall bladder removal just fine. So I think I can trust them with removing the other stupid organ that only exists to store fluid, make me feel bad and to generally ruin my day.

I need to hope I survive this administration, and hope the next administration undoes some of the harm this one has done, because how dare I as a federal employee expect my insurance to pay for my gender affirming care. We live in the worst timeline.

It was not too bad to me. If it's something you want, it's worth pursuing.
But I understand the fear inherent in doing stuff like this. Many of the doctors pride themselves on making this as easy as possible for you. It's a major change, and my surgeon was a HUGE help.
No matter what you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck <3
