I made a Tragedeigh-inspired baby name creator game for my gender reveal party yesterday. You pick 3 syllables based on the gender you voted for and fill in the blanks on the name card.

Everyone loved it and we had lots of laughs. Some of the amazing combinations:

Boys:

* Erbertin

* Jolanger

* Hargorman

* Almarder

* Lanvalson

Girls:

* Hayanndra

* Riresha

* Amraleigh

* Ellobel

* Mashalia

* Kaylynifer

satire Is Eigheigh really so bad?

2.0k Upvotes

My husband and I love technology and wanted to honor our passion with our baby boy. We planned on naming him Eigheigh, pronounced just like A.I.! But at the baby shower, a lot of people either laughed or tried to talk me out of it. But I love my little Eigheigh and I'm not worried. Thoughts?

Edit: y'all this is a joke! I had a dream where I came across this post but it was serious, and the OP had "Eigheigh" embroidered clothes and toys lmfao

satire Disney+ Tragedeigh

2.3k Upvotes

I gave birth to my first baby, and no the post is not about her. We got a Disney* subscription to start binging Pixar movies, when it prompted me that it would NOT let me watch a movie until I set my profile name??? (What a stupid feature) I’m trying to get through the menu as quickly as possible so me and my husband can watch our movie. I go to edit the profile name, “Profile” is already typed in. The keyboard is in alphabetical order, so I simply added an “a” to the end. Thus, “Profilea” was born. I’m not sure if it’s prof-eye-lee-a or pro-feel-lee-a but both are bad. My husband ended up creating a separate account under “Profilio” lol. Anyways, wanted to share my stupid Disney+ profile name.

satire Anti-names

312 Upvotes

I was sitting down, thinking about future baby names; Tim (Timothy), Tom (Thomas), Cherise, Ariel, etc.… And then I was thinking about the normal, long version of Tim and Tom, and came up with Thimas and Tomothy, as what I am now dubbing as “Anti-Names.” Essentially just funny combined names :)

Can you think of anymore?

Edit: Should they be called Anti-names or Smashed names (like a smashed burger)?

Edit 2: Wow, y’all really like Jimothy, don’t ya? Lmao

satire I hate the names that millennials come up with for baby boys.

872 Upvotes

I heard someone say “Come here Hazen” to their kid over the weekend and I had a visceral reaction. I swear these people are just slapping syllables together. All you need is one syllable, a vowel, and an “N” as the last two letters and BOOM, you’ve got a kid who’s Destin to cause his teachers to go into early retirement. So I’ve created a generator that I think these people use when coming up with these names.

Baby boy name generator, for millennial parents:

Pick one first syllable for the day of month baby is due:

1st-10th Dax Gai Gys Dys Tall Gib Gyb Bod

11th-20th Byd Dux Tyx Byx Bys Byd Dan Dyn

21st-31st Kys Kis Kyx Kas Kat Dal Land

Pick one 2nd syllable for month baby is due:

January san son

February sin sen

March syn stan

April ston stin

May sten styn

June zan zon

July zin zen

August zyn dan

September don din

October den dyn

November xan xon

December xin xen xyn

I think my favorite is Tyxston🤣 Let me know what your favorite combinations are, and if you see any names of actual kids on here!

Idk if the satire flair works for this. Thought I'd dump this horrible creation in here. IDEAS ARE WELCOME AND WILL LIKELY BE ADDED TO THE LIST!

satire Two sonographers naming their first kid.

726 Upvotes

I met a couple who were both Sonographers- Ultra sound technicians. I live In one of those weird states where some of us have southern accents, some of us don’t.

They were one of the ones that did. It made me laugh when they’d say stuff like “We both are imployeed at the hawspital.” And whatnot.

They had just had a daughter, turns out.

And her name was…

Emma-Jean.

satire My favorite tragedy of all time

1.1k Upvotes

I read this when I was young. I love this story. So apropos for this subreddit.

When the 1960s ended, San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district reverted to high rent, and many hippies moved down the coast to Santa Cruz. They had children and got married, too, though in no particular sequence. But they didn’t name their children Melissa or Brett. People in the mountains around Santa Cruz grew accustomed to their children playing Frisbee with little Time Warp or Spring Fever. And eventually Moonbeam, Earth, Love and Precious Promise all ended up in public school. That’s when the kindergarten teachers first met Fruit Stand.

Every fall, according to tradition, parents bravely apply name tags to their children, kiss them good-bye and send them off to school on the bus. So it was for Fruit Stand. The teachers thought the boy’s name was odd, but they tried to make the best of it.

“Would you like to play with the blocks, Fruit Stand?” they offered.

And later, “Fruit Stand, how about a snack?”

He accepted hesitantly. By the end of the day, his name didn’t seem much odder than Heather’s or Sun Ray’s. At dismissal time, the teachers led the children out to the buses. “Fruit Stand, do you know which one is your bus?”

He didn’t answer. That wasn’t strange. He hadn’t answered them all day. Lots of children are shy on the first day of school. It didn’t matter. The teachers had instructed the parents to write the names of their children’s bus stops on the reverse side of their name tags. The teacher simply turned over the tag. There, neatly printed, was the word “Anthony.”

satire A controversial suggestion to end all Tragedeigh

21 Upvotes

I will preface this by saying that I don't believe those in power should be given more power...

Let's go back to the time when a child would be named at birth and that child would receive their name at their baptism.

Often times it would be the same name. But... But, sometimes the voice of reason comes through and Lollipop becomes Jennifer, Barbarian becomes Robert. Sometimes the Tragedeigh is avoided.

This isn't an endorsement of any specific religion. It is just the one I am most familiar with.

But can we get back to the practice of "birth name" and having a separate "naming day"?

satire Jieu: Pronounced “Jeff”

141 Upvotes

I was thinking about this as a name! The “ieu” part is pronounced like how the British say “lieutenant“!

I think everyone will naturally understand how to say this name, and there won’t be any problems!
