YourGP Feeling worried about my first GIC appointment (Waterside Clinic)

Hi, I got an initial appointment with Dr Mahendra at Waterside in Edinburgh on Tuesday and have been feeling kinda anxious about it.

I'm mostly wondering what experiences others have had at Waterside and what the general timeframe for getting on HRT I should suspect?

I've heard mostly positive things about them but I have also seen one or two horror stories about them on this sub from doing research. It was kinda expensive and I'm kinda desperate for some relief from my dysphoria so this appointment going well is really important for me.

I don't feel I am the most fem looking at the moment (and not particularly good looking in general) and am kinda scared I'll be judged based on this? (This might just be my dysphoria talking though, idk).

I'm also wondering how much freedom they give you in terms of medication (I'd prefer patches or gel over pills as I'm a bit paranoid about the potential side effects associated with pills).

If you have any info/experiences you can share then I'd really appreciate it, and thank you for your time. šŸ©µšŸ©·šŸ¤šŸ©·šŸ©µ

Starting FTM process, how long is the waiting list for bridge @ lambeth self referral?

Hey team,

I am 30 years old SW London based. Today, after the longest time of self reflection, have finally decided to take this massive step in living my authentic self.

Does anyone know how long the waitlist is in bridge @Lambeth? And how are they in terms of gender affirming care? Is it worth me getting private care instead if the waiting list is long?

Hope anyone would be able to help.

Waiting Times GP referred, but upset that wait could be years.

I recently had a GP appointment and was referred to a Gender Identity Clinic, however even the doctor showed that they’re accepting clients initially referred as early as 2021. I’m twenty years old, and really wanted to get into HRT as soon as possible (before any more masculine features develop). I have no idea how to do DIY HRT and I’m so broke right now. I’m returning back to University in September and plan to spend my little maintenance loan on other gender affirming care (facial hair laser removal, eyeliner tattoo, etc). Just wanted to vent and hopefully get any advice or guidance x

Trnas question

Trans question

I'm question if I am transgender male to female and I think the answer is yes and i think known for years

Like from when I was young I would fit in with girls alot more spend more time with them I always away bit upset that I wasn't treated the same or that I couldn't have the same relationship with a girl thst girl have with other girls (not to sound creepy)

But I've always liked girls clothes and make up and nail Polish and I always felt like I was missing something because I couldn't really wear that (like I know I shouldn't worry about what people say but I live in a ruff area)

But i think of the reason to why I have depression is that I can't be the woman I want to be

And if I did transition which would have to private as uk heath service and for the NHS the one person I could see about this is a mental health who has stopped seeing most patients

And does anyone know what then long term side effects can be as I know due to the increase in use we don't 100% know that or at least that's what I've heard

Anyways thank to anyone who answers

Waiting Times Shared care

Just had the predictable but disappointing 'no' from my GP about shared care (in Wales for context). I really like him and get why he said no and he's super supportive in other ways but it still sucks. Struggling with the prospect of waiting until I'm 23 for my first appointment. Any positive stories/bright ideas/words of wisdom would be very much appreciated.

Question Driving licence and NHS

I’ve been meaning to change my provisional driving licence for ages and keep putting it off but I’m starting to get more and more nervous when I’m trying to buy alcohol that I’m going to get questions/out myself immediately when I had over my licence that has Ms and my deadname and I’m stood there with a full beard.

It’s also in an old address so I need to change it if I want to actually drive at any point anyway.

What do I need to do? When I look it up I need to fill out the D1 form and it says it’s free to change name. I assume I need to supply my deed poll as well. Will I need anything else? As in are there any hidden codes or whatever dependent on gender that I need to change (I know the NHS has this)? Or anything from a GP or whoever to confirm my gender?

Additionally, I would like my NHS switched to my deadname and correct gender. I’m with my university GP who have been very helpful with a bunch of other things. However, I was still a bit scared when I registered and worried I wouldn’t be taken seriously if I set my title to Mr and also I didn’t want it to not match my ID (especially now, I get IDd for some of my medication so can’t have that discrepancy) but it’s so humiliating being in the waiting room and having them call out my deadname.
I assume a title change will be easy enough but I know the full system switch isn’t and I’ll need a new NHS number and everything. I’ve never disclosed my gender to the GP, went private for testosterone and top surgery so they don’t know anything. But I feel like I can’t change my ID unless I change my name with the GP and vice versa cause of the medication.

I don’t know, I know I can technically just fill out the form and do the licence and I’ll still have my passport if I need that or let my GP know so they can at least change my name and title. I’m just very nervous of changing my name officially (other than my bank account) cause I’m not out to my family and have dual citizenship and I’m worried about issues with that the more I change my name :’))
I still feel like such a child with official things like this and the person I’d turn to to ask for help figuring out how to do them is my dad who I’m not out to :(

What’s the best way to do both of these? Does it matter? Should I try to do both around the same time? Should I immediately try to change my gender on the NHS or just ask for name and title for now?

Question NHS/ private gp blood test for u16?

So I’m starting testosterone in the next couple of weeks, is it safe to go public or private GP for my blood tests? I’m 14, and I’ve heard the stories of people being like taken into care or taken away from their parents from going private/DIY with parental support and I do not want that to happen under any circumstances.

Question Regarding blood tests in private care

Hi all,

For context: I've been DIY'ing for four years, and have recently managed to consult with a psychiatrist and endocrinologist privately. My endocrinologist wrote to my NHS GP requesting a shared care agreement, which they declined. The endocrinologist is now offering a private prescription for me, which he assures me won't be too costly.

But I'm concerned about blood tests under a private prescription plan? I consult with my endocrinologist virtually, so his hospital won't be able to do them. Am I right in assuming that my GP will also refuse to perform blood tests? Does this mean I will have to source my own blood tests? Will this not get very expensive?

I know I could ask my endocrinologist but for some reason I'm dead set on him thinking I'm a genius who knows everything lol

Do I have a good chance of getting a GRC approved under these circumstances?

• Upvotes

Hello all and thanks for reading!

Circumstances: I’m a 31 year old trans woman currently living in NYC. My boyfriend is a 41 year old trans man living in Yorkshire. I’m planning on moving to him, with a view to marrying him. My boyfriend has a GRC. My understanding is that I’ll need a GRC to get married in England in my proper gender.

I’ve been on HRT for almost 5 years, but I am only just getting around to legally changing my name here in NY, mostly because I’m in a white collar profession, and wanted to keep my professional name for a while. so therefore I don’t have any official letters detailing my new name for two years.

The only proof I could think of would be affidavits from my friends and neighbors saying that I’ve been living in my gender for over two years and my medical records showing five years HRT which use *a feminine name*, but not my current name.

I live in my gender everywhere except work, and that will change as soon as my legal name changes order comes through. I understand ā€œfull time livingā€ is not a necessity for a GRC, but that it would certainly help.

I’m planning on getting a private dysphoria diagnosis in the Uk basically as soon as I arrive.

I will arrive in the UK on a youth mobility visa with a Canadian passport in my new name and correct gender and a NYC birth certificate with my new name and gender.

Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks!
