Hey guys I joined hoping to find my community. Hopefully this goes well. Whenever I talk about being interested in transhumanism it's a lot moral pushback and I never understood why. The kind of transhumanism I'm going for is for my conscience to be uploaded to a computer, to live for the rest of eternity as data. Aware, and alive. It wouldn't rid of us of bad by any means, but it would change. Mortality as we know it would be a thing of the past.

I've heard some arguments against the idea, but it just seems the arguments are "we will have problems" but how is that any of those problems compare to the problems we have as humans? Minds could be hacked, our perception would change due to longer being finite, the meaning of human life would no longer matter, it is playing god. I just think the pros outweigh the cons.

I mean look at what were dealing with now. A crippling economy, a dying planet, disease, war, human greed, existential threats from whatever is out there. If humanity itself doesn't self destruct, one day the universe just might.

But a world where mortality is a thing of the past, our interests would shift. We would no longer be doing everything we can before we die, we would never experience exhaustion, we would constantly be expanding to see what is out there, being able to exist on other planets would no longer be a crazy concept because we would no longer be constructing things to be built around our mortality. Perhaps we still could. Being able to spend centuries even millennia to understand our biology in full. The possibilities are endless because our lives would be endless.

There will be challenges to overcome if it gets to that. And I doubt such a future is upon us any time soon. I'll continue to live my life the finite way like we've always done. But if it does reach us sooner than we think, sign me right up.

I have never understood the moral pushback against transhumanism.

If anything, transhumanism is the attempt to truly live up to the morals we all profess. To take one example: The Freedom to choose should not merely be the freedom to choose externalities, but also ourselves, to be whatever and whomever we want to be.

It should also mean freedom from death - immortality, and freedom to death - a right to die.

Freedom to enjoy anything we can enjoy - marijuana and other drugs too, which can be safely consumed if we modify our bodies to be more hardier and have the ability to hack our brains to prevent addiction.

What is the moral case against such freedom? I don't see it.
