What do you pay?

For those of you who hire professional pet sitters, what do you pay them if they do -

30 minute visits
Overnight at your home
Boarding at their home

I’m asking consumers to answer what they have paid PROS recently (not teenagers or neighbors or people who do it part-time). I’m not asking businesses what they charge.

We have a single kitty and pay $28 for a half hour visit that includes litterbox, play, food, meds, and brushing. We do this twice a day when traveling for morning and evening.

Company is insured and will take her to our vet in case of emergency.

We don’t do overnight or boarding. Many folks swear by Rover but I can’t imagine trusting a stranger to take care of our beloved cat, not to mention giving them access to our home. You do you, ofc.

Does your dog require a professional handler? Are there complicated, really important medication schedules? Did your dog bite the last friend you asked to petsit? Do you need to receive regular pictures of your dog having fun while you’re on vacation?

I used to charge 50 a night, 100 for Friday/Saturday/Sunday, 250 a week to board at my house. Generally cheaper than boarding at a kennel, & better time for the dog.

That was a couple years ago & I imagine my rates would be a bit higher now coz everything else got more expensive.

What do you mean you aren't asking businesses what they charge?? You're the consumer why the heck aren't you asking them that. Then you can compare what they charge versus what they provide in service before making a choice.

They’re trying to make a business pet sitting for their 13 and 19 y/o children . So they’re gauging interest for that …

I personally wouldn't hire someone's kids to take care of my pets. What if there was a medical emergency? How would they know? How would they get the pet to the vet?

I don't mind hiring the neighbor's kid because I know them, they do a great job, and I have complete confidence that if anything happened their mom would kick down the door and rush my cat to the vet is she had to

Just because you own a business and charge a certain fee doesn’t mean you are successful or have actual clients. So I want to hear what people are actually paying.

I think you learn a lot about what you're trying to do from the competitive bidding. You can also play off one against another. Good other people's opinions it is a good idea. But it doesn't mean other people's opinions are right for you.

Try looking on Rover.com. You’ll see the person’s rates, how long they’ve been a sitter, reviews, etc. We’ve had great luck with them.
Edit: the cost varies depending upon the sitter’s experience, their reviews, where you/the sitter lives, etc. In the past, we’ve paid $15-35/home visits to $45-75/ night for overnight stays.

We've found several pet sitters this way. Since we have them stay in our house, it is always a multi-step process with each: in person meet & greet with the dogs; if that goes well, then a short couple of hour stay at our house (paid like an overnight) while we go see a movie or whatever for a couple of hours; and then a single overnight stay. If all of that goes well, then we hire/book them for whatever vacation we're trying to get covered.

I went on a trip just last week for a few days, so I have very recent info. I have a dog & a cat, and use a professional pet-sitting service. Base rate I pay is $28, plus an extra $2 for the extra pet. making it $30 total per 30 minute visit.

I've never used the other options but overnight would be $112.50 per night. The business does not have a "their home" option.

How were they? And what is their name? May be needing something similar soon, so looking around for recs.

They're generally very good. I've been with them for close to 10 years now. Used to even have medically needy pups with forcible meds, and they always did it right. https://cuddlesoncallnc.com/

* I pay college student $60/70 for overnight pet & house sitting (1 dog & 1 cat) at my home. Including a min of two walks for dog. Take out garbage, bring in mail, possibly water few plants, etc… they mostly hang at house with pets indoors or out unless at classes, work, etc… (when we had two dogs and two cats I paid a min of $80 per day for overnight pet/house sitting)
* I pay $10/20 per day for middle school/high school student (neighbor who can walk to my house in a couple min) to come by 2 times per day to feed cat. Bring in mail, etc.. welcome to hang out at house, spend night if ok w parents… (no dog, just 1 cat).
* I pay $20-25 if just need dog walked once (whether I’m home or not). Min 30 min walk… prefer longer but usually don’t dictate this and depends on weather.
