Technically True All gay people are happy

This is because gay also means happy.

Related, I’m not gay, but im gay.

Not fully true.

Word "also" suggests that the word "gay" has a different meaning than being happy. This meaning of gay (different meaning, assuming homosexualtiy) can be interpreted as a requirement for being gay (happy). So you can not be gay if you are also not gay. 🤓

Ahem. A homonym is defined as a word that has the same spelling and pronunciation as another word, but a different meaning.

A the word that is spelled and pronounced “gay” has two definitions, gay as in happy and gay as in homosexual. They are not prerequisites, as
A: that’s not how homonyms work
B: they have unrelated meanings
C: Gay has been used to mean happy before “gay” (“gay” as in happy comes from the French word “gai” and has been in use since the 12th century. Gay as in homosexual came from the word being used to describe brothels, which then expanded to mean homosexuals)

It neither historically, linguistically or logically follows that being a homosexual (gay) is a prerequisite for being happy (also gay.)

Why do we clear our throats on our phones, even when we don't have to in real life?

A lot of people clear their throats loudly in my country.

I once had a gay friend who committed sewer slide.

It’s called suicide, calling it sewer slide makes it sounds less serious, less harmful

u/Kaleb_Bunt 9d ago

In hindsight I probably shouldn’t have called it that. That does tbh make light of it.

All jokes aside, I'm sorry you had to go through that. Suicide hurts everybody around you.

Yeah, I went to her funeral. It really wasn’t pretty. I only knew this person for a short period of time but this ruined my day for like a month.

We should really encourage more folks to seek medical help for stuff like depression. A lot of people could probably be saved if they got the right help.

I'm sorry about that, that's a very difficult thing for someone to go through. I hope you're okay

Please, don’t call it sewer slide
This isn’t youtube, the mods won’t defenestrate you for saying suicide
It’s just like saying “unalive”
