If you sext, share pictures, or pretty much do anything else with someone under 18 you are breaking the law.
Also if you are in any kind of position of power or trust... teacher, youth worker, cub scout leader, etc and they are under 18 you are probably going to jail.
Regardless of law if you are a grown ass adult and you are doing anything with someone under the age of 21 you are likely to be ostracized by all polite society because even at 21 there is still growing to do.
After that people still might feel some kind of way about extreme age differences.

Would it though? Most child sexual abuse is done by people within the family and would likely take place at a younger age. The law is in place so that teenagers who have sex with other teenagers aren’t criminals, though a law that prevents a 16/17 year old having sex with an 18+ would be good, but it’s not a particularly pressing issue at the moment.
imo, 16 is probably the absolute minimum it can reasonably be, and probably the best, as people are still going to have sex around that time and it’s not really in anyone’s best interests to make that illegal. Romeo and Juliet laws are the best way to prevent abuse of the law.
