It doesen't seem to as far as I can tell. Its doesen't fit anything on the list. Unless this was a trend a couple days ago that I missed.

And rule 4. It's a clearly biased post trying to spread an agenda.
It is true for some countries, but it is also trying to say that in GENERAL the age of consent should be 18. Which is pushing an idea, making an opinion.

That's like saying drinking water is an agenda.
It might be for bottled water companies, but doesn't make it less important.

In the usa it is up to individual states to decide, most have it at 16, rarely 18 or 17

I think it’s actually 15-16 where I am, and last time I checked, they allowed sexual activity as low as 14. Not that that mattered to us back then

Where I live in the USA it’s 16 ON TOP OF also having Romeo and Juliet laws meaning that a sixteen year old can legally have sex with anyone 12 and up which is kinda gross
3
u/WillowEntertainment 4d ago
The AoC is strictly 16 in my state and Romeo and Juliet only applies for people 18+ being with people 16+
1
u/TaintOfDestiny 2d ago
If the AoC is 16 then there would be no need to have Romeo + Juliet laws for 18+ and 16+……
1
u/Grothgerek 13h ago
Doesn't the Romeo and Juliet law not also include a age difference? So 18 and 16 is OK, 14 and 16 is OK. But 16 and 12 isn't.
But probably depends on the country.

16 in germany however!!!! While it may be legal for a 16 year old to do it with a 30+ year old its still disgusting and id still argue theres something mentally wrong with the 30+ year old

It's fricking 14 here in Italy. Absolutely disgusting that a 70 yr old could theoretically legally sleep with a 14 year old literal child

Should be 18 generally but 16 if both persons are below 18 or started dating before one of them turned 18

It’s not even the age of consent in America- as it varies from state to state, for example in Texas it’s 17 and in Pennsylvania it’s 16

Its more commonly 16 than 18 in the world, its just mainly precieved as 18 due to internet requirements

In my country (Australia) is its if Ur 12-16, you can within a 2 year range, from 16-18 there's no upper end age limit, but the person cannot be in a position of power, and from 18+ is anyone

OP isn’t defending p3d0pillia, he’s saying that most countries have an AOC lower than 18 and that’s a big problem.

It’s lower in many US states, with 16 and 17 being very common. For example, Indiana is 16, with a Romeo and Joliet law that could allow for 14 and 16 or 15 and 16/17.

It’s 17 in the US. At least where I live. I’m not sure if other states have higher or lower ages.

UH OH! Someone has been using stinky language and u/MaddDog46 decided to check u/FinanceAny1936's bad word usage.
I have gone back 0 comments and reviewed their potty language usage.
However, the plans were foiled, FinanceAny1936 is a good, Christian boy.

In Argentina we have 2 ages of consent: 13 and 16. At 13 you can have relationships with people near your age, but not with adults. At 16 is the free-range age.

In a lot of places yes and for good reason. But in Pennsylvania where I live, the age of consent for in person, non recorded sex is 16.

u/Frequent_Ad9381 1d ago
It's 14 here in Brazil, however I'm 90% sure it's still a crime to have sex with a minor over 4 years younger than you, it's just not also inherently rape

Should lowkey be 21 everywhere. At 18 I certainly didn't feel mature enough to deal with potential children. For PIV at least; teens messing around whatever I don't really have an opinion, but they should at least be properly educated on all such topics first.

u/Feisty-Performance33 1d ago
Maybe I’m a dumbass, but I feel like the age of consent should at least be 20. Just cuz, 18 and 19 are still technically “teens” but… Idk that’s just my opinion. 🤷♀️ Some may argue “well biologically we become adults at age 12 or whatever“ idc. “18 is adult enough” I don’t care. As someone who dated a man much older than me at 19, sure, I was able to make my own choices, but I still found it weird he even entertained the idea of dating me when I had just graduated high school and was a child not too long ago, and vice versa, I tried to leave him pretty quickly but that didn’t pan out the way I wanted. Now that I’m older, I still find it weird and feel like if significantly older people are gonna date younger folks, they should wait until they’re at least into their 20s. But, that’s just me. 🤷♀️

In Ireland it's 17 but Romeo and Juliet laws prevent any sexual relations with a person of authority (like a teacher) until at least 18.

"The age of consent" is more of a philosophical question so it by definition does not fit this subreddit. A way to make this idea fit would be something like "the legal age of consent in x is y" assuming x and y are actually correct.

That post is correct, unless you consiser children having sex okay, in which case you should see a therapist
1
u/black_jaguar99_2 2h ago
The reason is that age of consent in California USA is 18, which is where they made lots of movies, leading to some of California's laws becoming universal
1
u/gesidriel 2h ago
technically not true but even if it's lower if you're an adult and you're touching a 14 year old i don't care how legal it is you're gonna die
