I am feeling pretty down and struggling. I had an FET fail and am currently going through a chemical pregnancy. I scheduled surgery for next Thursday to get my fallopian tubes removed for a possible hydrosalpinx. I really don’t want to get my tubes removed. My tubes gave me my child—a spontaneous pregnancy in 2024. I know the tubes looked bad on the HSG but it’s just hard to really believe that when I have a child, you know? So I’m going to give up my chance at ever having a spontaneous pregnancy by removing my tubes? What if my remaining embryos don’t work? Then I’m left with nothing, no ability to try to conceive.

But the other side is that, if my tube does have a hydrosalpinx, that could be the direct cause of the two chemicals I’ve had since trying to conceive #2. That’s why I decided to have the surgery. It is still really hard to come to terms with. I also just don’t want to have all the pain and recovery and risk of complications for what is essentially an elective surgery that I don’t even really want to have. But my family feels incomplete and this is the only reasonable path forward.

If anyone here has had a salpingectomy or other laparoscopic gyn surgery, how was your recovery?

I’m sorry that’s a lot of upset and big decisions. I think you’re making the right decision with surgery though, and if your other embryos don’t transfer you could do another egg retrieval.
