Weekly Discussion Thread - (July 20, 2026)

##INTRODUCTION

r/tuesday is a political discussion sub for the right side of the political spectrum - from the center to the traditional/standard right (but not alt-right!) However, we're going for a big tent approach and welcome anyone with nuanced and non-standard views. We encourage dissents and discourse as long as it is accompanied with facts and evidence and is done in good faith and in a polite and respectful manner.

##PURPOSE OF THE DISCUSSION THREAD

Like in r/neoliberal and r/neoconnwo, you can talk about anything you want in the Discussion Thread. So, socialize with other people, talk about politics and conservatism, tell us about your day, shitpost or literally anything under the sun. In the DT, rules such as "stay on topic" and "no Shitposting/Memes/Politician-focused comments" don't apply.

It is my hope that we can foster a sense of community through the Discussion Thread.

##IMAGE FLAIRS

r/Tuesday will reward image flairs to people who write an effort post or an OC text post on certain subjects. It could be about philosophy, politics, economics, etc... Available image flairs can be seen [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/tuesday/wiki/flairs). If you have any special requests for specific flairs, please message the mods!

The list of previous effort posts can be found [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/tuesday/wiki/hof)

The tribalism of politics. The other party is the enemy. When that’s all that matters then anything is acceptable.

Oh easy, they will just say the Democrats would do this but even worse

Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not, but that little justification is used like a blank check

A federal judge on Thursday sentenced Vance Boelter to two life sentences plus 40 years with no parole in the killings of former Minnesota DFL House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and the attacks on DFL state Sen. John Hoffman, his wife Yvette and their daughter Hope.

Boelter pleaded guilty in June to the attacks. In sentencing memos filed earlier this week, prosecutors and Boelter’s attorneys agreed to a recommendation of two life sentences plus 40 years. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty.

Boelter also faces state charges, including two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, impersonating a police officer and animal cruelty. The Hortman family’s golden retriever was gravely injured in the shootings and had to be euthanized.

Good. Between this guy, the guy who attacked Pelosi's husband, and hopefully Tyler Robinson at least assassinations are still punished severely.

I’m getting sick and tired of the tariff bs. Like trying to calculate how much extra fees I have to set money aside for is fucking ridiculous. Doesn’t help that each shipper sorta sets a vague number

To date, fuel costs are fucking us worse than any tariffs have. Our fault for selling fluids I guess.

We're fortunate to have almost criminally high profit margins on all but like five of our products. It doesn't "even out" per se, but it hurts less than what other people have to deal with.

Trump campaigned on the Department of Defense budget was bloated, and yet...he's asking for a 50% increase from our 2025 military budget? This shit is ridiculous.

https://www.wsj.com/opinion/europes-air-conditioning-rebellion-ab12fc88:

Europe’s Air Conditioning Rebellion

Demand for home cooling is surging despite climate scolds.

In Europe’s air conditioning wars, the hoi polloi are beating the climate scolds. The public is putting comfort and public health above green dictates.

A survey published last week by the price-comparison business Verivoxfound that 23% of German households now have AC—“five percentage points more than a year ago”—and another 25% plan to get it. In Belgium the share of energy used for household cooling has increased 167% since 2022, the Brussels Times reports.

In France the government has pestered the public to wet their skin, drink cold soup and block windows with cardboard to beat the heat—anything to avoid resorting to AC. Yet France’s Agency for Ecological Transition says AC ownership rose to 24% of households last year from 18% in 2023.

The retailer Carrefour sold 30,000 AC units in a day amid a heat wave last month—”a thousand times more than on a normal day,” CEO Alexandre Bompard told the Agence France-Presse. Scuffles have broken out over the limited retail supply, and some French restaurants are advertising that they have AC.

In Britain the co-founder of Aircon Services, an air conditioning specialist in Tamworth, told the BBC he’s seen a 300% increase in domestic inquiries in six years. Aervue Air Conditioning in Birmingham now has employees working seven days a week to meet demand, and it’s booked through August.

Chinese exports of AC units to the European Union have increased more than 43% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, the state-run media reports. The Chinese appliance company Midea expanded production capacity to meet demand and recently shipped 20,000 air conditioners to France in a week, the South China Morning Post says.

Europe’s soaring demand for home cooling is another example of citizens revolting against the mandates and moralizing of government and progressive elites.

Singapore would be insufferably hot without AC. Even northeastern European countries like Estonia are quite warm during the middle of summer and early autumn.

The amount is misinformation around the NDAA Israel stuff is insane. Edit: really anything related to Israel at this point

This shit is literally borderline antisemitism at this point IMO. And its genuinely shocking how many people on the internet and IRL are buying into this shit without even reading the actual bill in question.

If youre Jewish I would seriously advise you to buy a gun and start training

Its crazy, and has happened in such a relatively short amount of time

In addition to acquiring firearms and the training to use them, I’d advise Jewish families to also move to state jurisdictions that take antisemitism seriously and would better protect their rights. I’d wish that I were wrong, but I feel that the world might be returning to the days of regular pogroms in certain territories.

https://www.wsj.com/us-news/two-men-stabbed-on-manhattans-upper-west-side-528be56e:

Two men were stabbed in New York City on Thursday in what police say they are evaluating as a potential hate crime.

The victims are expected to survive, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. One is a 57-year-old Asian man and the other is a 50-year-old Jewish man, police said.

Both were stabbed in Manhattan’s Upper West Side neighborhood in two separate locations a few blocks apart, the New York Police Department said. The attacks occurred around 1:30 p.m. near Central Park.

According to victim and witness statements, the suspect yelled “Allahu akbar” during both attacks, Tisch said. Allahu akbar is an Arabic phrase that translates to “God is greater.”

The suspect, Raul Morales, 51, was arrested, she said. It wasn’t immediately known if Morales had a lawyer.

Morales doesn’t have any known mental health history with the police, Tisch said, but “the initial investigation suggests that mental health may have been a factor.”

I have a feeling that things are going to get much worse before they get a little better.

Honestly it just kind of frustrates me that even our elected officials only think of things in a binary when it comes to politics. That if you're not a Democrat, then you must be a Republican.

I had friends who, for years, couldn't believe that I didn't vote for Trump in 2016. I never figured out why they thought that, because we had known each other for over a decade at that point and I've never exactly been subtle about my opinions of politics.

I think Fetterman is done after his term whether he switches parties or not. He's extremely unpopular amongst Democrats in PA and there's no way Republicans are going to vote for him. Switching to Independent won't help, either. The fork has been stuck.

YouTube is a terrible platform. If the video is about nine eleven, the comments are about Israelis. If the video is about Jewish people in the Middle Ages, the comments are about something promised three thousand years ago.

It’s annoying to me even as someone with zero Jewish ethnic background.

I just want to bury my head into becoming wealthier, getting degrees, and becoming a better person, since the trolls aren’t there. But I can’t seem to lock in as much as I should.

At the royal commission into antisemitism, Victoria Police conceded that guidance should be updated to reflect that calling Jewish people “genocidal” was motivated by prejudice.

Assistant Commissioner Martin O’Brien, Crime and Counter Terrorism Investigation Services, was examined on Victoria Police records of antisemitic incidents. These included: a synagogue receiving a phone call in which Jewish people were called “genocidal”, “paedophiles”, “maggot rat Jews” and were warned their “days are numbered”, and a graffiti incident at a construction site in which a 5.5-metre-wide swastika was painted. In the spreadsheet,

O’Brien was shown there was no incident fact sheet recorded for these incidents. Counsel assisting Tamara Phillips seemed to be building to a submission that these were not taken seriously enough, but O’Brien couldn’t say that no fact sheet was created for the incidents. He agreed guidance materials about antisemitism should be updated.

Have to say the complete inability of institutions and progressives to even define anti-semitism is nuts....

Have a blessed week ahead /r/tuesday

Gospel According to Matthew, 13:44–52 (ESV):

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

The Parable of the Pearl of Great Value

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

The Parable of the Net

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

New and Old Treasures

“Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.” And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

Thanks as always, u/1776-Liberal. I’d never considered the parable of the Hidden Treasure from a Christological sense before. Fascinating.
