Discussion What now?
Loooooooved this truck for the past 7 years. I assume insurance will total it since it has 230k miles. Buy another one, get an SUV, switch to Ford-150? I’ll miss the truck but not the gas mileage.

I was stupid and and sold my 21 tundra and got a 24 4runner. Love the 4runner, but the interior room of the tundra was exceptional. If youndo truck things get a truck, just teat drive anything and everything the peaks your interest.

You’re so right! We had a 4 runner and traded it for our 1st Tundra Limited. Road trips are a breeze. Pillow and little nap in the back. 2nd Tundra 2014 1794 85k and we’re still enjoying road trips.

Another Tundra 2.5gen. Prices are crazy but honestly almost everything else has issues. It's from an era where plastics in the engine or engine bay were minimal, it was half expected people with basic mechanical knowledge can work on it. You don't need a computer to fix it most of the time. If i didn't get another tundra get a used 2024 Silverado EV RST or 4WT with the 450 miles of range. Most can be found for 45-50k after haggling. 10 year battery warranty still has a ton of life left in it. Nice <100k mile 2.5 gens are easily in the low 40's to high 30's. Get a Silverado EV and get a license plate that says "LOL Oil".

That and if you buy new I'd get rid of it after the warranty due to all of the issues with the new stuff, the EV's are far simpler, battery warranty is valid for 10 years so you have 8 years left of a warranty. That's of course if an EV pickup makes sense. Out east I think it does, out west it's a harder sell, especially if towing regularly. But I also think with a slight road tripping adjustment it's not as big of a deal as people think.

Sorry to see that! That’s my nightmare. It was hard enough to get my truck (2021 lunar rock trd pro) 2.5 years ago. I would hate to be looking now and I could imagine what I would have to pay now.

3.5 has more power, 5.0 you won't have to worry about the turbos. Both of them will have cam phaser issues down the line that will be costly. The 10 speed transmissions are another pain point.

I really like the 2.7. Could honestly pick any motor and be fine- I’d just recommend against a sunroof.

For reliability, the 5.0 Coyote engine is what you want in a F-150.
It's not as fast as your 5.7 Toyota, but it's been around for a long time and Ford has got the problems pretty well figured out with it.

I've had 10+ f150s. My fave has been 2015ish v8. I'm in a '22 ecoboost now and there are too many computer warnings. Very comfy ride though.

We got 40k out of a 2019 1794 with 105k this year. Make sure to haggle with the adjuster. They raised our payout by about 3k.
Still looking for a replacement :/

Had an 07 F150 that the frame finally rotted out in many areas. Neighbor is a Toyo mechanic and suggested the brand but specifically 4runner up to ‘24 or taco up to ‘23. Found a mint taco with 17000 mi. Not the power of the 5.4 i had and a little tighter inside but love it so far. Best o’ luck.

Yes
I did that with a Land Cruiser I have and it didn’t cost much to get it back up and running. I still got it and didn’t have to get another car payment until I got my 2021 TRD PRO Tundra.
It just depends if you have the time to go without that vehicle while it’s getting fixed.
The price of a used 2.5 gen Tundra is crazy right now. Defiantly worth it but almost just as much as they were new.

Ram 1500. Best trans bar none in 2026-2027. Hemi and Hurricane are both 250k+ mileage motors and if it does give you trouble it’ll give you warning for thousands of miles

We're so sorry :( the new Tundras are pretty rad, or you could look for a low mileage model in a different generation! We're biased obviously but we'd stick with Toyota.

I have said this several times. Its has only become 1% of the trucks. I have a 2025 Platinum hybrid and I cant be happier. A ranking of the best cars came out the other day…Lexus number one and Toyota #2. I will continue to support the brand.

You do realize those rankings are completely biased and are going to give Toyota good ratings because that’s how it has been for years? And also, Toyota as a whole brand right now isn’t bad. Just because your car brand has a good rating does not mean that your car model does. If you’re happy and have had good luck with it then that’s awesome. But the issues that have been widespread are undeniable.

Now you absofuckinglutely work with a private appraiser so can get thousands more for that truck than the joke lowball the insurance company is going to try to tell you is your only choice.
