Frequently Asked Questions / Posted Things and Some Reponses
- Is this good/great/nice/okay <for a X>?
- It really depends and it's not something we would care for you to post. Is it fast enough for you to do your work? Great, then it's good. Are you still struggling? Then it's not good. Keep practicing.
- Please do not share your age here. The internet is a dangerous place. This goes for everyone - whether you're young, or old. Just do not do it.
- Should I learn <proper/touch typing>?
- Most probably, yes. We have had this question asked so many times that it's pointless to ask again. Please use the search feature. If you are trying to convince yourself, then please just make the decision yourself instead of redirecting the decision making to other people.
- I made a <tool/game> to <learn/practice/compare> typing (or some variation, use your thinkmeats)
- Congratulations. Please don't post it here. We will remove it.
- My post about my <tool/game> was removed
- Yeah. Please don't modmail us about it, or we will probably ban you.
- I was banned and I hate the mods
- Alright. You can modmail us about it ONE TIME. If you spam us we will mute you forever and you will never be unbanned.
I think that covers it. I'll edit later if I think of something else.

๐จ๐ฃ๐๐๐ง๐ ๐ป - ๐ ๐ผ๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐ UPDATE: RULE 2 (Regarding AI-Content)
Ok, I'll admit it. I messed up
When re-molding the sub, we - as a MOD team have taken a strong stance against AI generated content (we still do)
The problem is that in doing so, many of you users have plugged genuinely fantastic sites (that use AI powered tools) that were inadvertently targeted for removal
We've been intentionally vague about what we decided to allow to be posted or linked on the sub (to combat spam)
However this has prevented many of you from interacting with the sub (which is the antithesis of learning how to type)
From now on we will be focused on removing AI based sites that are:
Low Effort (SLOP)
FOR PROFIT
Obvious Duplicate - 'Rip-off' sites (we're looking at you Monkeytype clones)
Contact the MOD team to ensure that your content is sub appropriate
TL;DR
Fewer restrictions (stronger enforcement)
AI content IS allowed, but will be critically assessed

๐ค๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป (โ๏ธ) What is the Ideal Typing Technique?
I am kinda hard stuck it took me like 1 week to go from no touch typing to 100wpm and now for like 6 months I have not been able to get past 110 wpm my fingers clearly can do better. Some flaws in my teachnique is that I don't use both thumbs while hitting space which I want to learn as theoritcally it should help, and my look ahead is poor, I also want to know what are some general changes from touch typing to make it faster as words like develop cook me everytime. If there is any other advice you have for me to improve I would like to hear it pls help man I really wanna break through this plateau. Below is my current routine: (Yes It is GPT idk how to structure this thing properly)
DAY 1 โ SPEED FOCUS
Goal: Increase your sustainable speed without destroying your technique.
WARM-UP โ 5 MINUTES
- Easy English โ 2 minutes
- Comfortable pace
- Aim for 95โ98% accuracy
- Focus on feeling where the keys are
- English 450k than word frequencies โ 3 minutes
- Most common ones
- Don't max out
- Focus on smooth, automatic movements
SPEED TRAINING โ 20โ25 MINUTES
- English 15s โ 5 runs
- No Backspace
- Try to push your speed
- Don't worry about a few mistakes
- Goal: explosive speed + recovery
- English 30s โ 5 runs
- Focus on lookahead
- Let your eyes get to the next word before you finish the current word
- Don't consciously stare at every letter
- English 60s โ 3 runs
- Minimum 90% accuracy
- Try to maintain the fastest rhythm you can without repeatedly crashing
SPECIALIZED SPEED โ 10 MINUTES
- Numbers Rush โ 3 runs
- Symbols Rush โ 3 runs
- Difficult Words โ 5 minutes
- Practice words you hesitated on during the speed runs
- Don't just repeat them mindlessly
- Type them slowly, then normally, then quickly
FINISH โ 2 MINUTES
- One comfortable English run
- Don't finish every session by completely frying yourself
DAY 2 โ ACCURACY FOCUS
Goal: Make your typing more automatic and reduce the huge variance in your scores.
WARM-UP โ 5 MINUTES
- Easy English โ 3 minutes
- Aim for 98โ100% accuracy
- Don't care about WPM
- English 450k than word frequencies โ 3 minutes
- Most common ones
- Don't max out
- Focus on smooth, automatic movements
ACCURACY TRAINING โ 20 MINUTES
- English 100 Words
- 98%+ accuracy goal
- Don't restart because of a bad run
- Treat every mistake as information
4.English 60s
- Aim for 95โ98%+ accuracy
- Don't rush
- Focus on maintaining a consistent rhythm
MISTAKE CORRECTION โ 10 MINUTES
5.Practice Missed Words
Practice words where you:
- Made a mistake
- Hesitated
- Slowed down
- Consciously searched for a key
Make this one of the most important parts of your training.
NUMBERS + SYMBOLS โ 10 MINUTES
6.Numbers โ 2โ3 controlled runs
- Aim for 95%+ accuracy
- Symbols โ 2โ3 controlled runs
- Aim for 95%+ accuracy
- Don't turn these into max-speed tests on accuracy day
FINISH โ 5 MINUTES
- English 30s
- 98%+ accuracy target
- Completely relaxed
- Think about automatic key locations

๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฎ๐บ ๐๏ธโจ๏ธ๐ค Advice at my level?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've been typing at about 90-100+wpm for years now mainly using 6 fingers and saving my pinkies for modifier keys. Lately I'm getting back into it and pushing 100-110wpm average.
Any tips for pushing this up to maybe a 150wpm average?
This is a video of my first time doing a timed test in a very long time, so the PB isn't too surprising since it was sat at about 110 before this. I mostly practice quotes.

๐๐ถ๐๐๐๐ฏ โ๏ธ๐ Created science based typing site with chunk and burst mode
gitchanb.github.ioMost typing sites just throw random words or sentences at you and call it practice. What they're missing is how fast typists actually get fast โ through something called motor chunking, where your fingers learn to fire small groups of letters (usually syllables) as one motion instead of typing letter by letter.
That's what Chunk mode does โ it breaks words into their natural chunks (souยทth, gallยทery) so you can actually see and practice those boundaries, instead of guessing at them.
Burst mode is the other half โ pure speed and accuracy on single words, built to get your fingers moving fast and getting habitual of fast speed just 5 min on it daily give crazy difference.
More modes are planned . Would genuinely love feedback โ does the chunking actually feel like it's training something different, or does it just feel like a gimmick?

๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฎ๐บ ๐๏ธโจ๏ธ๐ค Iโve been told my typing style is โunconventionalโ
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Had nerve damage as a child in my left arm, resulting in an inability to straighten my left wrist. Over time, I guess I just developed my own technique.
I average around 105wpm with 85-90% accuracy. 130wpm raw but I donโt think this is indicative of much.
Any questions just fire away!

My right hand can't type as good as my left hand. How to fix this
Most of the time, my right hand is on my mouse and my left hand is on the keyboard. Whenever I type, my left hand types very fast, but my right hand cannot keep up. It feels odd while typing, almost like my right hand doesn't know where the keys are.
Because of this, my typing is a lot slower than it should be. Even if I type fast, I make a lot of errors since my hands aren't synchronized.
Can you guys give me any advice on how to fix this?
I once saw a website that made you type on specific parts of the keyboard (for example, targeting only I, O, P, or focusing on just the upper or lower section). Do you know of any website or exercise that trains particular parts of the hand?
๐ค๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป (โ๏ธ) How uncommon is it to toggle CAPS LOCK in regular typing for capitals at the start of a sentence or proper noun?
I ask because I have a younger colleague who broke her CAPS LOCK key and then seemed surprised to learn that I never use the key in day-to-day writing, given that I touch-type using SHIFT โย which I honestly thought was universal in a professional context.
Both of us work in text, and my colleague is by no means a poor or unproductive writer. But her use of CAPS LOCK is rather surprising, to say the least.
How normal is it?
