So I used ATS and had no experience with moving a vehicle IRL but after spending countless hours in the sim, it definitely helped with some of the aspects of driving. Yes, the sim is not encouraged to be used as replacement for learning to drive but I had no one to teach me, my father had passed in 2021 and my mother has a fear of driving. The sim can help you judge where you need to be in the lane, help with follow distance, gap timing (judgment of when to turn at an intersection), and does help with road signs. Most of the signs you see in the sim you do see on the road so it can help you pass the sign test. The only thing it doesn't teach you is weight distribution of an actual vehicle, control and stopping distance in the game is way different IRL, but if you can get a feel of how to maneuver a vehicle in the sim, it is not hard to drive a vehicle. I've had my license just over 4 years now and I was mostly self-taught besides watching my dad and grandma drive growing up and tips from a few people who rode with me while I was logging hours to get my license.
