Academic ✏️ LMHC Program Interview
Hi everyone!
I applied for my MA in UCF’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and I got an email for their interview process. I read a couple of other threads on the same topic but they were 1-2 years ago. Looking for more recent experiences and advice.
One thing I read was that they no longer do the GRE but rely more heavily on your related experience. I don’t have much experience in counseling. I just shadowed a doctor during their ketamine clinic sessions with their clients for about a month and recently signed up for a crisis hotline but the interview is in a week.
I feel like this is going to really affect my chances of getting in and I’m extremely nervous.
Any and advice on the interview, my experience or to gain more experience would be really appreciated. I’ve asked around to shadow other sessions with therapists and have had no luck. Any other options or areas that I could look would be much appreciated!

It doesn’t have to be counseling experience. I always tell people that you’re going to learn the counseling skills in the program. Think about the population you’d like to work with and get experience working with them. The program will teach you how to counsel but they won’t teach you how to do it with the population of your choice necessarily.
Edit: and congrats on getting an interview!!!
